We recently connected with Brandon Mack and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brandon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Growing up in a household where music was always played it was easy to fall in love with it. My parents had all the top Pop and rnb artists’ CD’s. I always sang along to the songs but it was until I was around 17 years old that I realized I can actually create my own songs. I’d send videos of myself singing Michael Jackson songs on snapchat to my friends, and they were blown away. One of them encouraged me to write my own lyrics and sing it, so that’s exactly what I started doing

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a singer, songwriter, producer and live performer from Toronto Canada but I’ve lived in New York and most of my family is from there so I have a blend of style with both cultures. I started writing music while I was living in New York and that’s where it all started. What sets me apart from other artists would be natural creativity and organic originality, I’m always my true self and people tend to relate. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come, and being at a point where I enjoy every moment. As most artists and entrepreneurs know, there’s a lot of highs and lows that you go through on the path for success, I’ve kept my head up the entire way even during the uncertain times. I was once a new artist that not a single person knew and got to a point where hundreds of tickets were purchased by people to come see me sing. I’m forever grateful!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to positively impact someone’s life without even knowing them is a surreal feeling. I’ve had people reach out to me stating something along the lines of “your songs got me through this tough time in my life and kept me hopeful for brighter days ahead”. Things like that keep me going and it means the world to me.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think the best way society can support artists would be by truly keeping up with artists, turning on post notifications is key because a lot of times, posts and new information that artists need their fans to see goes under the radar. Social media and algorithms are constantly changing so at times it’s hard to be visible when it feels like your posts/announcements aren’t being fully shown. And don’t gatekeep, if you like an artist share their content with your friends and family. Some people think it’s cool to keep a lowkey artist or song to themselves instead of sharing it. Artists get paid per stream/view so it goes a long way of helping us to continue creating our art
