We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brandon Lott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brandon below.
Brandon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
A meaningful project I’ve worked on is BLUBiRD, my upcoming debut album. After losing my father in 2020, going through a failed engagement, and facing unexpected health challenges, I had to embark on a deep healing journey. It felt like releasing a butterfly from a mason jar—letting go of pain and grief to gain new perspectives. In that release, the fog lifted, and hope returned, much like spotting a bluebird in the sky—a symbol of joy and renewal in Native American culture. BLUBiRD represents that transformation: making space for new light by letting go of what no longer serves us.
Brandon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I grew up surrounded by music and religion in a very loving home, and while I’ve carved my own path, this foundation continues to shape who I am and what I stand for. I started making music in high school for fun, but after facing turmoil in college, it became a way to heal and deepen my creative process. My greatest gift is my ability to transmute pain and darkness into light—something I can share with others, and it’s limitless. Music has healed and empowered me to be free, and my mission is to reach others in the same way.
When I was younger, I wanted to be many things, including a magician and an archaeologist. I was always so obsessed with the mystical, uncovering life-altering artifacts and forbidden secrets. In a way, I’ve become a musical archaeologist—digging deep into the uncharted and uncomfortable places in my mind to reveal truths that help others make sense of this reality. Need I mention, the entire process is magic—or alchemy. I believe that by becoming the best version of myself, my music can spark a ripple effect, inspiring others to do the same. Boldly carving their own pathway to nirvana.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, I believe we are often our own biggest obstacle, and many people get stuck in a place that feels hopeless. When I found myself there, I became curious about psychedelics—plant medicine—that not only obliterated my depression and panic attacks but also connected me to a deeper sense of freedom that had always been within me. Though misinformation has created a stigma around it, these tools, in fact, allowed me to truly see myself. My 10-year journey with psychedelics has fueled endless creativity, self-love, and a deeper connection to God, and I hope to advocate more for their benefits in the near future. The possibilities for healing and growth are unreal. I want to see more people step out of their own way and step into who they were always meant to be. Indiana recently approved House Bill 1259 which will fund therapeutic psilocybin research.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
The Alchemist! I know many people are familiar with it, and for good reason—it’s relevant to everyone. The idea of discovering your Personal Legend, or your true purpose, resonates deeply with me. I firmly believe that when you align with your purpose, all of God’s creation conspires to guide you along the way. In truth, there’s no such thing as coincidences.
