We recently connected with Brandon Lindo and have shared our conversation below.
Brandon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
A name is identity. A name is sacred, like my name or your name. It’s what we are known as and depending, what you are known for. When I was in the process of deciding the name for my clothing brand, I had several that came to mind. At first, I was set on the name HRTG, which stood for Heritage minus the vowels. My initial reasoning was to use my original artwork to highlight not only my own, but all of the cultures that influenced me throughout my life. During very careful research, I encountered a company that used the word Heritage in their name so I had to go back to the drawing board. This time I dug down deeper, revisited my mission statement, prayed on it, and I was able to decide on a name for my clothing brand. I decided to call my brand My Visionz Clothing Brand based on the values of what I am to achieve. Which is to build connections through our unique visions. Ever been to a museum? People from all different walks of life, different cultures can gather and connect with each other sharing their perspectives on the art that is on display. I wish the same for the the art that I display on my clothing. To inspire conversation of perspectives to build connections to challenge all of the things that divide us.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Sure. Since birth, I have a natural talent for art. Refining that skill over the years and using the trauma of being bullied for not having the fashion of my peers growing up, I was fueled with the desire to create a clothing brand that is not only fashionable, but also builds connections by sharing perspectives on my artwork. Once I was in college, I started to pursue this dream to create my own brand that embodied that core value. I was studying graphic design and marketing while working part-time when I started in 2013. My business not only is a clothing brand, but I offer my graphic design and marketing consulting services to upcoming clothing designers, and people looking for other graphic design work to be done. What sets me apart from the rest of the rest is that I believe that I stay in my own lane do to my having a strong passion for the craft. I would consider myself a veteran for doing graphic work and running my business for over 10 years at this point. Also, all of my designs are original artwork done by me. What I am proud of is that I inspired people to pursue their clothing brand endeavors, and taught the craft to groups of youth for several years. I am most proud of how happy it made my mother to see me in pursuit of my passion and living out a dream. My brand is high quality, full of integrity, and limited. We are always looking to sponsor individuals that embody our values.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped build my reputation within my market is my authenticity. All of my designs are original artwork that I create. All of my experience and background that I have I use to the full advantage for my business and for the clients or partners that I work with. All of the people that I mentored or assisted in any capacity has went on to be successful.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson that I had to unlearn was that I cannot be successful without the support of my family. That happened to be untrue, of course. I am a big supporter of group economics and with that, I was looking for support from my family and friends. Though they saw whenever I dropped a new design or posted on social media, I often found myself begging for them to engage, buy or even share my content. It was taxing and built up resentment to be honest. I was encountered by other successful people speaking on their experience that strangers supported them more than their families and friends. That idea was challenging to me since I believed in group economics. What I had to learn though was this, strangers can become a member of group economics by purchasing. Understanding that majority of businesses are successful due to the strangers that believe in the value of the business that leads them to engage with the business. Since then, I’ve thanked my family for being m y family, and pursued to make more customers and clients, and not to burden my success on the shoulders of my family. This is my dream to make reality.
