We were lucky to catch up with Brandon Kerr recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brandon, appreciate you joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I am truly grateful for the opportunity to pursue this passion. There is an abundance of possibilities awaiting me as I continue to dedicate myself to this craft. It’s exciting to think about what the future holds.
As far as my journey as an artist goes, it took a bit of time to completely embrace the idea of becoming one. On many different occasions, I would assist my dad and showcasing his work at the renowned Round Top antique shows in Texas, which take place twice a year in the fall and spring. I began to create my own pieces in 2022, that’s when I found out I may have what it takes to become an amazing artist.
It’s a never ending journey of growth, where I’m constantly learning, experimenting, and embracing new techniques. Every step offers a fresh opportunity to challenge myself and push the boundaries of my creativity, making the process both rewarding and ever-evolving.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
To put it simply, I put paint on canvas! I use a wide range of materials and mediums. Whenever I begin a new project, I take a moment to connect with my emotions and think about how to express what I’m feeling on the canvas.
The majority of my clients are interior designers, and it’s incredibly rewarding to collaborate with these creatives to bring their visions to life! Many artists wait around for a gallery to pick them up but if you want to actually get your work inside someone’s home, try working with an interior designer.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist for me is waking up each morning excited to get into the studio and pour my soul into my work. So many ideas race through my mind at all hours of the day, and I have the freedom to choose which project to pursue next.
It’s truly a beautiful experience to do what you love each and every day.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
For me, it’s more of a personal journey. Yes, the money is great, but I’m truly content with what I do for a living. Before this, I was often anxious about my future because I didn’t have clear direction at the time. The goal is to enjoy my life and not to worry about outside noise.
