We recently connected with Brandon Keeble and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brandon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I have always loved art as child. There was just something about mixing colors and seeing the finished product at the end. I would look down at my hands, and think , wow, I did this with these! One of the first times, I realized I wanted to pursue this passion, came from my mom and aunt. I had to be in the in the first or second grade , and I free handed a picture of Susie Carmichael from the Rugrats. My teacher at the time, thought I’d traced it but, nope, it was all me. My Aunt Nana picked my cousins and I up from school and I showed her what I had drawn. She looked at my drawing and back at me in shock. Asking me, “Did you really draw this?”, smiling ear to ear, l said, “ YES, I did!” My aunt owned a salon and made sure to show all her clients what her nephew had done. That moment made me so happy and proud. When my mom seen what I did and loved it, I knew this was it. I wanted to know and learn everything I could about drawing and painting. My mom seen my passion for it and took me to the Frist Art Museum, and boom, I knew this is what I wanted to be.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m just a guy from the east of Nashville that has a passion for all kinds of art. I do a little of everything from painting, sculpting, and digital art. In all of my art, I try to create a special meaning or feeling that one can see through my work. Even when I do art for kids, I want them to be excited in what I create for them. In my paintings, I use a variety of mediums, which includes watercolors, oil pastel, acrylic, crayons, and even markers. I want my clients to know that what I create is just for them. That’s why I like to ask them about their self so they can see a little bit of them in what I create. It makes me proud to see how they react to my work. That I specifically created a one of a kind piece just for them. This inspires them to tell others about my work and gets my talent out there for others to see.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn that my work had to be perfect. I had this assumption that if my work wasn’t perfect, no one would like it. I had to come to the understanding that everyone has their own interpretation of art. Some may love it, others may hate it. Art opens a dialogue, good or bad.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect, is being able to turn a blank canvas into anything I vision. The time and dedication it takes to make a piece is rewarding. For people to see what I create, it just makes everything worth while. Art for me is therapeutic, calming and helps me release anything I may be holding inside.
