We recently connected with Brandon Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Brandon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
Growing up, my parents always told me how important it was to work hard. As a child, I didn’t understand and at times, I thought they were just being hard on me. From picking up pinecones and sticks in the yard everyday, taking the trash out, cutting the grass, and making sure I had the trash cans out to be picked up on Monday mornings. When I got to high school, I spent most my summers cutting grass to make money. During that time I didn’t know they were building me to become a hard working, responsible, business owner. Looking back at how I grew up, I would say my parents did a great job at building me to be a hard worker. Sometime I would want to give up but it’s something in me that won’t let me. I know that comes from them showing me the bigger picture of working hard. It may now show now, but if I keep pushing it will be success at the end.

Brandon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For the ones that don’t know my story, I’m a clothing designer/brand owner. I started out drawing and doing digital art when I was around nine. I got into clothing designing in high school. I would make custom clothes for friends I went to school with. I didn’t think I would be a brand owner but that came around three years ago. I would make designs for other brand owners and one day decided to start my own. We have everything from shirts, socks, belts, jackets, and any other clothing you can think of.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
One big change I had to make in my life was leaving the military. I went into the army at the age of 20. It was a life changing move I made when I joined. I went around the world may times. I went to Afghanistan for a year and Egypt for a year. The military life was great, but I knew it was more for me. It’s possible to be a business owner in the military, but I knew for what I wanted to do, I would have to get out. I was actually medical discharge from the military from an injury. When I found out I would be forced to get out, I knew that it was a sign to start my new journey. I served 8 years with some amazing people and made some life long friends.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
When starting a business one thing that’s on your mind is how can I get people to buy. I stared out by letting the people I know I’m starting a business. One first thing you can do is send the people in your contacts a message telling them of your new business. These should be the ones that can kick start your business but make sure it’s something they can use. We all know that social media is a powerful tool when used correctly. An effective social campaign will be able to reach
millions of people without leaving your home.
In the same way social media can be beneficial to your business, it can also be disastrous. Using it the right way
is the fastest way to grow your business.
The main thing you need to know is you must understand your
audience. Everyone wants
their business to be the best it can be and to reach
millions of people. One mistake that’s made
when using social media is trying to reach
everyone. This isn’t always a good thing. For
example, if you take a bucket full of rocks and
pour the bucket straight in front of you, the rocks will
cover tumble in a pile at your feet. If you
take that same bucket full of rocks and throw it all around
you, the rocks you will cover more
ground but the rocks would be dispersed all over
the place. When you pour those rocks out in
front of you, it’s going directly at the target you are
aiming for. Setting up your social media
campaigns to reach your target audience will
get the most out of your campaign and
will help your business grow faster. Not only
will social media bring awareness to your brand, but
it will also drive traffic to your website for
sales. Using an influencer may help your social
media to grow. Influencers with
thousands or millions of followers can get your brand some great visibility. Having
them promote your product or service to their
following will bring in an influx of new customers.
The best way to do this is to use influencers that
have a steady stream of loyal followers that are similar to your target
audience.
