We recently connected with Brandon Jerrod and have shared our conversation below.
Brandon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
As an artist with my Intersections; Black, Dark-skinned, fat, non-binary to name a few, it is my mission to ensure that I am my story and the stories of people who share my identities. I grew tired of waiting for other people to reflect myself through their art.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Brandon Jerrod (They/Them), and I am a Black, non-binary, and queer. I am a African Traditional Religion Practitioner, Diviner, Photographer, and Writer
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Servant leadership is truly the best way to lead. It allows you to truly be aligned with the needs of your team, it fosters more trust with your staff, and it allows for more accurate coaching/feedback. To lead without empathy and awareness is to foster fear and destroy the trust of your team.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is being able to participate and a legacy of cultural change. Often, people who are not creatives trivialize our impact, however, we have created works that have inspired movements that have positively impacted the world.
