We recently connected with Brandon Hudson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, thanks for joining us today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
One day I was on the train going from Astoria, Queens to Manhattan. It was probably around noon, and I was not in the best of moods. Living in NYC as a young 20’s, is really great but also very difficult. Some days are way easier than others, this day was not one. I remember sitting by the door, listening to my album of the time (20/20 By Justin Timberlake) on low, and a homeless man walks on and proceeds to ask people for money. As he approaches me, he stops. He doesn’t ask for money, he didn’t even begin to ask for food. He then says hello, and I say hi back. He could tell that something was up with me. He then asked me to show him my smile. So I smiled. Then he complimented me on it and continued to walk and ask for other patrons for money. That moment defined more than he could have ever expected for me, and taught me more about the human experience than every job being someone else combined. This to me is the epitome of true kindness, empathy and compassion.
Brandon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Brandon Hudson, and I am Professional Actor and Owner of B90 Creative, LLC. My career experience spans the Broadway, TV, Film and Commercial Dance Industries. I was a replacement swing in the Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton and Head Over Heels (which I also helped develop). I played Randy in Dolly Parton’s “Christmas On The Square”, Eddie in the indie feature “CLOCKED”, Steve in “SNAG” and more. In order take ownership of my artistry, and find stability in an unstable industry, I began my business B90 Creative. We specialize in pre and post video production, and directing/ choreographing stage and screen performances. This has become a place where I put all my skills to use, and level up the final product in ways that others may not be able to yet.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I most recently made a pivot and moved to St. Louis. I felt that in order to create art that related to people now, I needed step out of the dream that NYC and LA forced me into, and tapped into a more truthful experience of life. And though it has been difficult, and a lot of ups and downs. It has saved my humanity, and allowed me to continue pushing forward without being swayed by over marketed and over produced products and people around me. This has allowed me to bloom in a more cohesive and organic way without forcing it.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
To be honest, I sit around 6,200 people, with most likely only 1,000 or less being active on my feed. Truth is, I have stopped caring. I do not try to build anymore, and I don’t do it for the algorithm. I am a person, and if you like me who what I am about. You stick around. I will say thank you to some of the cool jobs that I have had that has allowed me to have the mini following that I have. But once those jobs are over, and I don’t post about Hamilton or Dolly Parton anymore.. the audience stops caring. That is social media. Know what it is before getting into it, or else you could be find yourself in a cycle of caring about the likes over the content.
