We were lucky to catch up with Brandon Horton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brandon, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I have worked on to this day, has to be my first project The Lyric that allowed me to showcase my talents to the world. It allowed me to be free with my creativity as an artist, but also raise awareness to the senseless killings that are going on in our Trans gender community. I played Dray who was torn between accepting who is, versus fighting against who society wants him to be. An internal battle ensues and he finds himself in a weird situation. I have always been told to love everyone and this project allowed me to see that there are individuals in this world that don’t see it that way. I will always be grateful for that time and I’ll never forget it. You can stream it on Tubi and Amazon Prime.
Brandon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Brandon Horton, I have been in the entertainment business as a professional for 5 years now, but before then I went through rigorous training that allowed me to step into a role when it was my time to perform. I love acting and modeling it allows me to express myself, I’m a creative individual and this is how I express myself. In addition to being an actor and model I am an artist, poet, and author as well. I have been featured on FX’s ATLANTA Season 4 ep.2, Contestant on USA’s Snake in The Grass Season 1, BMF Season 2 ep. 1, Ellen’s Game of Games Season 2 ep. 7, Lead Roles in the Movies Revisiting The Heart, and The Lyric. Along with numerous background spots, I am letting my talent shine in any role I land, no matter how big or small it is. I’m active in my community as a Strength and Conditioning coach, and I want to be an example of how far hard work can take you. My athletes and clients keep me on my toes, so balancing my day job with pursuing my goals as an actor is challenging. But I keep my focus on one goal at a time , and I keep my head high at all times. Time management is important and when you have a strong support system it helps through the tough times. Put in the work, take advantage of opportunities and let the chips fall where they may.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My main mission is to be an example of perseverance, Life is hard, but really going after your passion and goals is the most challenging thing that a person can go through. There will be road blocks, but you will be shaped by the tough times. Keep working hard, don’t give up, and you’ll see the fruits of all the labor and sacrifices you have put in.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I was told early on in my career that the outside world understands 15% of what it takes to get a role. They love the sexy part of the bright lights, red carpets, and interviews. But that other 85% is nothing but work, time, and sacrifice that comes with the territory of being an up and coming actor. So finding a community that supports us creatives allows us to express ourselves in the low times and celebrate the high times. I know I’m very passionate about being the best and sometimes things don’t go the way I think they should, so I go to my safe space and release whatever I’m feeling there and let that be that. Be patient with us we creatives were born hyper sensitive in certain areas.
