Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandon Hodges. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brandon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I discovered my passion for pursuing a creative and artistic path professionally while I was already deeply immersed in a corporate career. Initially, I juggled my art and creative endeavors as hobbies alongside my professional commitments. However, as time went on, I began to realize the immense fulfillment I experienced through my artistic pursuits. It became increasingly evident that a life focused solely on material luxuries and the emptiness that can come with corporate success was not fulfilling my deepest aspirations. It was at that pivotal moment that I made the resolute decision to embrace the challenges and sacrifices associated with a more demanding, yet ultimately more rewarding, creative path.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m an artist who discovered my passion for art while pursuing a corporate career. It wasn’t until I realized the immense fulfillment I found in my creative hobbies that I decided to take a leap of faith and pursue a more rewarding artistic path. My artistic style can be described as bright and whimsical, aiming to evoke feelings of childhood wonder and intrigue. I create drawings, paintings, and collages using recycled materials. Through my work, I strive to bring joy, provoke deep thought, and inspire introspection in the world.
What sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to being true to myself. While I draw inspiration from various sources, I’m not concerned with what other artists or the art world at large are doing. I execute my unique vision in every single piece I create. By embracing my authenticity and following my artistic voice, I ensure that my work is something no one else can replicate. I take pride in staying true to myself and providing a genuine and distinct artistic experience to my clients and audience.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I’ve had some reservations about their potential. I do appreciate the concept of artists having the opportunity to monetize their work in the long term. While I don’t have an immediate solution to offer, I believe it’s important to explore alternatives that provide fair and sustainable support for artists without the concerns associated with the current state of NFTs.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
So many! I will try to keep it short. One notable book trilogy is ‘Steal Like an Artist’ by Austin Kleon, which I find myself revisiting every year through the audiobook format. It serves as a valuable reminder of the importance of creativity and inspiration in my artistic journey. Another impactful book is ‘The Little Prince,’ which carries a core message of not losing one’s childhood sense of wonder. This philosophy has been a driving force in my entire creative life.
When it comes to online resources, YouTube is my go to. I’ve learned a great deal from all kinds of channels, particularly the Museum of Modern Art’s their playlist titled ‘Tutorials: In the Studio.’ Additionally, two YouTube channels that I highly recommend are ‘Art & Success – Pamela Caughey Art’ and ‘Jerry’s Artarama.’
In the realm of podcasts, ‘Art Juice’ and ‘Who Arted: Weekly Art History for All Ages’ have been the biggest sources of inspiration and knowledge.
