We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brandon Hall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brandon below.
Brandon, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
The biggest risk I’ve taken was walking away from a steady agency job to start my own design business. After seven years, I found myself feeling stuck—pouring my heart into the work while others took the credit, and the paycheck didn’t match the effort. I believe in paying your dues, but I also believe in knowing your worth. It took courage to leave the familiar behind, but choosing myself was the first step toward building a career with purpose, passion, and pride. Thankfully everything has worked out and I’ve been an independent creative for 15 years now.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I studied both art and political science in college and dabbled in design along the way, but it wasn’t until after graduation that things clicked. I found myself drawn to design books—spending hours in bookstores, completely absorbed. That’s when I realized: this wasn’t just a passing interest, it was something I wanted to pursue.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of my career is the freedom I’ve created for myself. I love that I’ve built a life where I can do meaningful work and still be present for the moments that matter—like taking my kids to soccer practice and actually being there for them. That balance is something I never had in previous jobs.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Honestly, one of the best things society can do to support artists and creatives is to simply recognize how much effort, skill, and vulnerability it takes to create anything meaningful. Art and design is hours of work, trial and error, and putting a piece of yourself out into the world. That understanding alone can go a long way in creating a more supportive and respectful environment for creatives.
