We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brandon Guinn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brandon below.
Hi Brandon, thanks for joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
Entering my freshman year of high school, I met John Bartlett, my baseball coach. He is what I would consider my first mentor, a man who poured into me. He invested in me. He was a follower of Jesus, and a United States Marine. He pushed me to be better, to have integrity, and to work hard. He corrected me and pushed me to be a good man. As a Marine, he saw value in running. Conditioning was a priority in our baseball program. Looking back, I see that it was the method of “Over Distance” training. For practices, we ran, and ran, and ran, did drills, and ran. His philosophy was that during late innings of a game, other teams would be tired and play sloppy, but we would be fresh and still firing on all cylinders. We were. I was never tired. I said all that to say this. Through him, I learned the value of a coach/player relationship. I trusted him to tell me what to do, to make me better, to teach me. He did more than teach me baseball. He taught me values that carried over into life. He taught me work ethic and integrity on and off the field.
That was part 1. The table turned. I was about the age of my baseball coach, and alot of high school athletes from my church started asking if they could come train with me. They wanted help. They wanted to be bigger, faster, stronger, or excel in their sport. At this point in my life, I realized I was equipped, educated, experienced, and had a heart for helping them not only achieve their goals physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. This was my defining moment. I am a coach. I help people. Life is about relationships. We are meant to live for so much more than we currently are. Our loved ones deserve the best version of ourselves that we can give.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a man who has strived and aspired to always be more. Be better. Be stronger. Faster. Healthier. Fitter. I have burned with passion to be a better husband, a better father, and a better man. I have failed and failed, time and time again. Like almost every man, unless you’re still lying to yourself, lol, I have fallen short. With my macro plan. Daily eating habits. Missed workouts. Mediocre workouts. I have failed at being consistent. At home. In my marriage. To my children. To God. I have fallen flat on my face many times and occasionally wallowed in that failure.
BUT GOD!!!!!…… has called me to Rise Up and be the man He designed and created me to be. To lead my family. To love my wife, unconditionally, as He loves us. I have a calling to lead people from a life of mediocrity and failure TO a life of Purpose and Victory. My goal is not to be a personal trainer, a nutrition coach or a fitness expert. My overwhelming passion is to TRANSFORM lives. The plan is to forge a life of strength and discipline, while BUILDING a body that is strong and resilient. We must CREATE an unstoppable warrior MINDSET, all while LIVING a vibrant life that is Kingdom focused.
My passion is to educate, train, and equip people to love Jesus, be fit, be healthy, and Rise Up above a life of mediocrity.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I would not only choose to do the exact same thing, I would have found a way to start earlier. I would have taken many more risks to make this dream happen earlier in life, so that more lives could have been impacted up to this point. More education, more experience, and more interaction is always a plus in the field of fitness, nutrition, health, and mentorship.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
I would like to answer this way….. This is something I use for my brand, my method, and approach:
Resolve – A whole-hearted commitment to the plan of action. (game plan, blueprint, program, strategy)
Integrate – Complete integration of faith, fitness, nutrition with an unbreakable mindset.
Synergize – An agreement between coach and client to produce a combined result greater than that done alone.
Elevate – Elevate YOUR quality of life through building physical strength with a relentless mindset. Have abundant energy from a healthy relationship with food, all combined with an indestructible faith in Jesus.
