We recently connected with Brandon Deutsch and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I never really thought I’d be making sports content. I really loved sports, I played baseball and basketball and that was my life and all I could talk about, but I never thought I would make a career talking about it. Foolish me huh? It’s all I could discuss, ever day, every free moment. The Lakers rank 15th in defensive rating, they don’t play defense enough to win a championship. The 49ers have Jimmy Garoppolo at QB (at the time)m, they won’t go far without elite QB play. These takes were my life. My love of sports has always been apparent, but I thought I’d be playing them. I wanted to be a professional baseball player my entire childhood and I came close to making that a reality. I played at Glendale Community College before transferring to USC, but I kept getting hurt trying to gain more velocity and my path to the Major League’s looked grim. I started to reach out to people in my USC network that worked in sports and could possibly get me an internship or job with them and I came across “The Arash Markazi Show” and reached out to fellow USC Alum Arash Markazi. He invited me on to his show and I helped co-host and produce the show for over 2 years while meeting tons of people. It was an awesome experience and one of the people I met ran a popular TikTok account and said I should start posting my takes on there. I didn’t think anything of it but I kept posting reactions to news, possible NBA trade rumors, Salary cap situations of NBA teams and my following grew to 10K within a few months. Once Fantasy Football season began in 2022 I decided to start discussing that because I loved it and all of a sudden my views, followers, and engagement started to skyrocket. I could really make a career of this I thought. And I’ve given it my time and dedication ever since.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I think I answered how I got into the industry in the previous question where I told most of my entire story haha. However, I run one of the biggest Fantasy Football and NFL Draft pages on TikTok, 75 thousand followers, and numerous 100+K-1 Million+ view videos (weekly). My engagement ranks in the 99th percentile for similar creators and I’ve built a community with my informative and engaging content. I serve the people. I give them analysis and information about the things they love: Football. Whether it’s fantasy football or NFL Draft info, I delve deep into the numbers and give my opinion on situations. I’m in the middle of growing my IG, X, and YT pages because of the TikTok ban,, but posting a TikTok has been able to make me a living and I’m very proud to be a sports content creator. What sets me apart from other creators isn’t just the unique information I provide them, it’s the entertainment, the passion they can feel I have about the situation. And I respond to almost everyone. Most creators don’t interact with their followers or fans but I think it’s important to engage with them and create a more intimate experience. Not many other people have done that in my field. I’m most proud of helping thousands of people win their fantasy football leagues, it makes me so happy. I always provide a service before each Fantasy Football season, the most in depth draft guide there is with advanced stats no one else provides. I also am going to be starting a subscriber page on TikTok and once I grow my other pages to where they need to be, on those platforms as well. I think what also sets my brand a part is that I am an athlete. I still train like one. I feel like I can play in the MLB or NFL right now with how I train. I want to be not only a fantasy sports content creator, but also a motivator for people to live their life to the fullest, to be healthy, to train at a high level, and get the most out of their life. That’s important to my brand and the growth of it as well.
How did you build your audience on social media?
With TikTok specifically, it’s all about consistency and being up to date with news. Consistent in the sense that you should post daily and if you can numerous times a day. Show people you are interested and want it, and they’ll feel the passion and dedication too. What I mean by being up to date with news is you should be the first one to post about said news. IF you are a movie content creator and a new trailer comes out, film it immediately one take it and post it. IF you are sports content creator and a coach gets fired or a surprise happens relative to your brand, be the first to record it and document it and post it on social media. Be the first to talk about something that is going to start blowing up. That’s important to separate yourself.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The reason I love TikTok so much is it pays very well for videos if you are in the creative rewards program (which I am). On Instagram, Youtube…etc it is increasingly more difficult to get paid for the content you produce in my opinion. Like TikTok and the rewards program, where you get paid for overall qualified views, I make numerous 200+K view reels and have earned NOTHING from it. What’s the point of posting on other platforms if they don’t reward viral videos? I think all other platforms should implement something like the creators rewards program and pay their creators based on views, especially Instagram.
