We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brandon & Dawneshia Webb a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Brandon & Dawneshia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear your thoughts about family businesses.

Having a family business creates generational wealth. We want to be able to leave our children and their children a foundation that will stabilize a financial mindset. We want our children to feel proud to have something to call their own, teach them how to service your customer and find a need for your customer.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Freshly Made Scents was formed when Mr. Webb started to grow his beard. Mrs. Webb decided to create a beard oil that would help him maintain a healthy looking beard. So after creating that, we wanted to share it with our friends and family. After getting great reviews for it, we decided that we wanted to provide other naturally made products to service for our customers. The fact that we decided to launch this business when the pandemic happened was very risky for us, but we decided to move forward with it. It taught us that maybe it’s time to think of a way to provide for our family financially, then it got to the point that we wanted people to know how important it can be to use more natural products for the body. We are very proud of ourselves for taking a leap of faith and starting something during the worse times of everyone’s lives.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

We started our business by Mr. Webb receiving a $1,000 grant from this Non-For Profit organization. With that we were able to get our business set up with the state, order products, create a website, and create our marketing ads.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?

We began to follow Dave Ramsey and a guy by the name of Myron Golden we found on YouTube. We also had a great friend who has their own business that has tremendously help us grow.
