We were lucky to catch up with Brandon Church recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, thanks for joining us today. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
It all started when I realized my testosterone was deficient and struggled to find a medical professional to help. It seemed like each of the practitioners I visited, knew less about male hormones than I was able to learn online.
I decided to start a Facebook group, TRT Community, for support. It grew slowly over the years. I was convinced about 4 years in to start a podcast – All Things Testosterone. Since we already had the largest social media based support group around, the podcast quickly grew to be the most successful in our niche.
Fortunately I’ve not had to work too hard acquiring sponsorships. Most of the work that I’ve put into this project has been learning a little about marketing, show research, and executing content.
At this point we have a loyal following and help men daily learn about hormones, and connect with doctors that can help restore their lives!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
When I turned 30 it was like I woke up and someone flipped a light switch off. I was fatigued, taking naps after work, no motivation, anxious (couldn’t speak in a social situation), and gaining weight. I started googling my symptoms and decided to get my testosterone tested.
When I went to my primary doctor, he said I was crazy and that my beard was way too thick to have low testosterone. I talked him into testing me and I was 377ng/dl. This number is technically within normal limits, which was 300-1150 on this particular panel, but it didn’t consider the fact that this range doesn’t take age into consideration. My great grandfather could have the same number and we’d both be considered “normal.” In addition to that, total testosterone doesn’t even matter. Bio available, or free testosterone is what your body can actually access and they didn’t even test this. I ended up being forced to try a local hormone clinic, pay out of pocket and visit the clinic every week for my injection.
There were no other online support communities so I started a Facebook group to amass info and help myself and others avoid the mistakes I made.
Starting TRT, even with a competent doctor, can be difficult. Dialing in your protocol when your messing with hormones is tricky and a doctor visit once every few months isn’t usually enough to get this done quickly. After the group became large enough to make an impact, doctors began reaching out to me to sponsor us and I began collecting data. My goal is to help as many men and women as possible connect with competent doctors.
We are a free community and podcast. We offer information and support for men and women undergoing, or considering, hormone replacement therapy. We provide expert resources and negotiate discounted rates for our members, free of charge!
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I met Ian through a mutual friend at our corporate job. We hit it off and quickly became close. Ian is the kind of guy that would put together a spreadsheet to track “near the office lunch choices” to ensure that we are not only utilizing our time well, but not dining on similar cuisine too often. I’m talking “let’s filter out options that require being seated by a host,” organized.
Over the years I started to notice some similar symptoms in Ian, as I had experienced before Testosterone Replacement Therapy. Mostly mental health symptoms like anxiety. It took a few years, but eventually I was able to convince him to get tested and he was hypogonadal like the rest of us!
It was about that time that we were growing from an online community to a podcast so I just knew that I needed him to come along for the ride. Between us being “besties,” his analytical thought processes, and newly founded “low T,” it was a perfect fit!
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I definitely wish I had known more about podcasts before I did. Podcasting is an unlimited world of reach and the number of men and women we’ve been able to help has grown exponentially since we started All Things Testosterone!
Loving podcasting so much has actually led to a second podcast of mine – Blended & Shook. As part of a blended family, we chat about the ups and downs associated with second marriages after children!
