We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brandon Carnes a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brandon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I am God’s toughest soldier. Regardless of my circumstances, or having less than others in the sport as far as resources go, I still was and will continue to perform at the highest level and achieve my goals.
Brandon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Brandon Carnes, and I am a professional track and field athlete specializing in short sprints. Born in Bradenton, Florida and a University of Northern Iowa Graduate in Arts & Graphic Design, I now train in Minneapolis, MN under University of Minnesota Track and Field Assistant Coach Ibrahim Kabia.
This is your opportunity to walk with me in my journey to making the 2024 USA Olympic Team. My dream is not only to make these teams and bring home gold, but to use my platform to share my testimony and show others what can be achieved when you have faith, hope, and trust in your God given talents. Any support you offer is greatly appreciated, regardless of size or quantity. This additional support will allow me to focus solely on training, and provide access to the level of recovery treatments necessary to compete at the professional level. By choosing to support, you will gain from the benefits outlined below.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When my current training situation was no longer working, I had to revisit what I needed in an environment, coaching staff, etc. to succeed, and had to pivot by moving across the country to get those things.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Being one of the top sprinters in the world in the 100 meters, and the only one currently unsponsored.
