We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brandon Burdette a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brandon, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
One of my biggest inspirations and hero’s is my dad. He is a business owner as well and runs a fence business named “B&M fencing” in Rock Hill, SC. He has had a lasting impact on my business structure and how I hold myself to a high quality standard. I think that a lot of business owners stray away from their core morals once they’ve reached a certain point in their career and growing up watching how he always stays true to his ethics is very inspiring, even after success in staying busy with consistent work.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For people who don’t know me, my name is Brandon Burdette, also known as (Burdettevisuals). I’m a photographer and videographer based out of Rock Hill, SC. I had an interesting beginning to my introduction into this industry. It began with an interest in graphic design, a close friend of mine (Grace Sorrells, @shotwithgrace) had been doing photography for years, and me being the curious individual that I am, I wanted to see if I could dip my toes into that line of work as well. After my first shoot I found an immediate passion for this business and began researching for new equipment. Ever since that moment in February of 2021 when I first started “Burdettevisuals” things have kept growing since then. I’ve found quick success, working with the likes of Lamelo Ball, Cordarelle Patterson, Mason Rudolph, Stephon Gilmore, and many other names of interest. I’d say my favorite accomplishment so far is my work being publicized on national TV during the Panthers Vs. Patriots game. I personally feel what separates me from others in my industry is my professional manner, consistency, and creativity. In past experiences I have been able to bring a different perspective to potential clients, when they are not quite sure what they are looking for I have been able to provide a creative outlook in what they might be looking for, or suggest something they have not thought of. But I don’t want any of this to be confused with that idea that I am completely content with my accomplishments, I am always looking to improve, learn, and make new relationships and connections. No amount of success will ever make me feel that I am too good for a business opportunity, or too good to provide advice to up and coming entrepreneurs with the same interests as me.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Photography and videography is not a cheap business to fund. I had a humble beginning of funding this business by installing fences with my dad working as an employee for his business (which I still do on the side) I saved up a lot of my earnings from working with him as capital to start this business.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think I’ve built a reputation in my industry as a consistent hard worker. It is not uncommon for someone to comment on my fast turn around times and quality of work that they payed for.
