We were lucky to catch up with Brandon Blvd recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brandon, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on actually occurs Friday, September 23rd 2022 @ the Green Room of Crosstown Arts here in Memphis.
In Memphis, there are a lot of underrepresented people. These are awesome and talented individuals that are just trying to make a name for themselves in whatever way they see fit. I first came to this realization reflecting on the stories, journeys, and lives of friends and peers that are from Memphis’ Historic Evergreen District.
With this in mind, I wanted to take up the challenge in providing a space for some of the most talented artists and musicians that I can find and provide the platform that many of the individuals from Evergreen didn’t have.
In paying homage to the district that holds a special place in my heart, I named this platform “The Evergreen Sessions.”

Brandon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Simply put, I’m a rapper from Memphis, TN that dares to change lives and narratives that don’t fit conducive agendas. Growing up in Memphis I was exposed to many beautiful aspects of life. In the same sense, I saw many aspects of life that plagued the lives of so many. Violence, poverty, lack of growth and opportunities etc for many of those same individuals that make this city beautiful. In my youth, I always found myself struggling with confidence, but through my music, I was always confident that many of the issues mentioned could be addressed or even aid some sort of resolution or revolution for that matter, through music. This is the core of what Brandon Blvd is and what I choose to stand for.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I feel as though one of the most rewarding aspects of being an artist is connecting with people. These are individuals you likely would have never been able to meet, observe, or network with through any other means or channels. People from different walks of life, faith and religious backgrounds, values etc, all coming together to fellowship with one another under the umbrella of music. An amazing experience to say the least.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
One of the thing I believe non-creatives struggle to understand at times is the idea of someone investing their all into something that may or may not yield tangible success. Let’s be honest for creatives there is virtually no safety net here. But, in order to grow, evolve, and overall succeed you absolutely have to step out there and make sacrifices that may make those who don’t understand cringe, or get confused. What we go through or invest in as creatives may not always have a sound logic or reasoning behind it, only passion.
