Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandon Andersen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Brandon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I didn’t go the conventional route of film school. A lot of what I’ve learned came from countless hours of experimentation, passion, and obsession. As a kid, I was always fascinated by video, but back then the internet and marketing were in a completely different place.
In 2004, I started inline skating, and through that I discovered people were filming themselves. In that moment, it all kind of came together. I realized I had found a subject I could learn this craft with. So for Christmas in 2008, I bought my first camera. Skating became the perfect subject to grow with.
Honestly, I don’t think there’s much I could’ve done to speed things up. I needed the time, and I needed the failures. I’ve always learned best by being hands-on, and every opportunity that’s come along has happened at the right time.
The most essential skill for me has been storytelling and being able to convey emotion through video—whether I’m telling a brand story or capturing a doc.
The biggest obstacle was money. Building the kit I needed to do the job the way I saw it in my head has taken time. But even that helped, because it pushed me to use what I had in the moment to make what I wanted to create. And I think there’s a beauty in that.

Brandon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m the founder of WLVES Digital Cinema, a production company focused on branded content and documentary-style films. I’ve been filming for over 15 years, starting with inline skating and a camera I bought in 2008. I didn’t set out to make films, it grew out of my passion for skating and capturing those moments. I created WLVES because I wanted to build something bigger than myself and have access to resources beyond what I could do alone.
Now, I help brands tell authentic stories that feel real and emotional, not like traditional marketing. The best brand work doesn’t feel like marketing; it connects with people on a deeper level. Whether it’s a brand film or a short doc, we focus on authenticity and building trust through cinematic storytelling.
What sets us apart is our approach. We take the time to understand your business and work closely with marketing teams to strengthen your brand. It’s not just about making one video; it’s about building lasting relationships and creating work that has real impact.
At the end of the day, I want people to know that WLVES is all about connection, authenticity, and making films that stick.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being an artist or creative is seeing how a story or project can connect with people. When you create something that resonates with others, it feels like you’ve created something real. There’s a sense of fulfillment in making something that isn’t just visually appealing but also emotionally engaging. Seeing someone react, relate, or feel something from your work—that’s when it all clicks. It’s not about the recognition or the accolades; it’s about the impact you have and knowing you’ve contributed something meaningful.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, the driving force behind my creative journey is the desire to tell stories that connect with people on a deeper level. My mission has always been to create work that’s not just visually appealing, but emotionally impactful and authentic. I want to show the world that storytelling, whether it’s through a brand film or documentary, can be a powerful tool for building trust, sparking emotion, and creating real connections.
Beyond just making content, my goal is to help brands and individuals express their true selves through cinematic storytelling. I believe in humanizing brands, making them feel relatable and real, so people can see themselves in those stories. Ultimately, I want my work to leave a lasting impression and encourage others to approach storytelling with honesty, vulnerability, and purpose.
