We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brandon Akridge. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brandon below.
Alright, Brandon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share a customer success story with us?
Growing up in a small, farming town in Southwest, Georgia. Most people in my town rarely left or grew out of what they were born into. At a very early age I was already business minded. As soon as I could push a push mower, I was working for myself. Going door to door, I worked hard and when I was old enough would take on summer construction jobs, originally just as a painter at 13. By 15 I had saved enough money to get my first car. I purchased a 1993 Chevy Beretta and the rest is history. I left my small tow in search for a better quality of life. Until I was 22 things were very touch and go. I made a lot of mistakes, which caused me to learn fast. By 23 I started my first business. I definitely learned quickly just how difficult it is to run a business with only a 10th grade education. Over time my business grew. And over time it slowly died out. Each new adventure into a business taught me many things to help improve the next. Kieffer Ridge Solutions I feel has all the bases covered. Though currently it’s mostly myself working, we have been blessed with some amazing clients that have invested in our company to help transform thier homes and businesses. I look forward to our second year in business and for the challenges ahead.
Brandon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Veterans and LGBTQ+ owned. We aim to create jobs for people who are parts of these groups as employment for some can be challenging. Transferring back to civilian life for military. And processing in new fields for people in the LGBTQ+ communities. Our brand looks to captivate our clients by tailoring each job and experience to their liking and going above expectations. Currently that is why we are still very small. As we are eagerly looking for passionate and like-minded people to grow with us. In the meantime I continue to be the front line of the business. Currently we have moved into San Antonio, as my husband has extended his military contract which forced us to move closer the his base. So our Houston location is on standby until we get settled here. Excited to announce we do have a branch our business that is becoming a new entity. We are launching, Akridge Design Co, sometime this year. Due to the high demand of Airbnb/Furnished rental staging and designing, we have answered the call. We are excited to get our feet wet in an industry we often cross. We will keep you posted in the meantime.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve had a few challenges running a business without a proper mentor and using my own capital. I’ve learned you should only hire people who share a talent and passion for what you do as they won’t keep the quality of the work to your set standard. With that I’ve had people working under my name that have let me down a few times. So now I’m much more selective in who I let represent myself and the company.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met my husband one night when I was working as security at a local bar. Originally we were suppose to just say hello and I tell him about the nightlife. And we’ve been together ever since. We came up with the company as our plan for when he transitions from the military. Hopefully that’s still our goal. Even though the timeline of him leaving the military has extended.
