We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brandley Jasney a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brandley, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I wrestled with this question a bit. It forced me to step away from the ravaging noise of my mind and truly ask myself, Does this truly make me happy?
For me, happiness isn’t dependent on external factors, nor do I believe in chasing happiness. I seek fulfillment, I pursue purpose. And I believe filmmaking is that for me. But with that purpose comes a weight, a great responsibility to communicate something greater, something moving. It demands much of me, if not all. It requires me to feel everything deeply, to be extremely intentional, to walk through experiences and lessons that are almost always hard. It takes all of my mind, and most of my time.
And from that, honestly, comes doubt, insecurity, frustration, sorrow even. Working a regular job may be easier, less taxing on my mind and emotions. But I know I wouldn’t be in alignment with what I’m called to do. I have no plan B, the only way out is through. And for that reason, no matter how I may feel, I remain grateful and deeply humbled to be on this journey.
Brandley, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a Haitian kid from South Florida who moved to Central Florida in 2018, searching for something new. During this time of transition, I found myself anchored by my faith in God, and that anchor has remained constant throughout my journey. It was through my involvement in ministry that I first touched a camera, and from that moment, I was captivated. What began as a simple exploration into photography evolved into a deeper passion for cinematography & storytelling.
At first, I was drawn to the creative process itself, the challenge of building a whole world for viewers to experience. But as I continued, I began to realize that the work was resonating with people on a deeper level than just the visuals. It reminded me of how films, has always been a mirror for me, a way to navigate my emotions and thoughts. That realization became my mission, to use filmmaking as a tool to shift hearts, minds, and perspectives, ultimately leading people to knowing God.
My journey has been one of self-teaching, fueled by a relentless desire to grow. Through resources like YouTube, real-world experience, and the lessons life itself has taught me, I have committed myself to constantly evolving as both an artist and a person. Each frame I capture, each story I tell, is another step in my personal and professional growth.
As for what sets me apart, I’m honestly not sure I can claim to be set apart just yet. But what I do know with certainty is that my work is grounded in honesty, integrity, and a deep sense of purpose. My aspiration is to contribute to the world of cinema with a sense of reverence and authenticity, creating work that transcends the surface and touches the heart.
I am on a journey of discovery, and I’m excited to share it with the world. I invite those who feel a connection to my story and my work to join me in this pursuit. It is my hope that, together, we can explore the transformative power of art and faith, and that, in time, I may earn your support and trust.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, in this moment, the most rewarding part of being an artist is how deeply it exposes me. Artistry doesn’t just give me a platform, it holds up a mirror. It challenges me, refines me, and pushes me to grow, not only as a creative but as a person. As much as it critiques me, it also affirms me. It teaches me to slow down and pay attention to the small details, it constantly humbles me, and it helps me to seek understanding rather than always needing to be understood. In that way, my art is constantly shaping me, even as I try to shape it.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to communicate something edifying, something authentic, something that moves people and challenges them.
