Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandice Webb-pondexter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brandice, appreciate you joining us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
The main steps I took when starting my practice was working on building my clientele while I was still in esthetician school. I would make sure to utilize my journey on social media and advertise services on there . It helped me to establish my clientele. The next thing I did was buy my equipment little by little while I was on school. The goal was for me to go solo immediately after school so I wanted to prepare .
The key challenges I faced early on was trying to market to everyone instead of my ideal client . This makes it harder to develop your menu and marketing campaigns because your marketing is all over the place . You can’t connect with your audience and it’s just not effective .
My advice to anyone that wants to go solo right out of school would be to build up your practice while in school, continue learning even after school , figure out what treatment you are passionate about and become the best at that

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the esthetics industry in 2018. I had to pivot during the pandemic because our industry was shut down , Diring that time I started my online website and sold skincare kits.
I am a corrective skincare specialist that focuses on acne , hyperpigmentation, and age management . I am an inclusive , multicultural, and results driven esthetician.
I love what I do and love watching my clients skin transform as they get services and learn how to properly care for their skin .

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing clientele in my business is knowing who my ideal client is, understanding the problems my ideal client has , and then showing them how I can solve that problem. I utilize social media a lot to showcase my skillset, build trust , show results , and educate. I also get out in person and connect with people in the community .

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn being a perfectionist. It’s not easy and o still struggle with it . But my perfectionism was holding me back and preventing me from being productive and executing. I have learned to just do it and that I can always go back and improve it later.
