We were lucky to catch up with Brandi Wright recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brandi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in my career came from experiencing the darker side of property management—and then seeing firsthand how a people-first approach can completely transform an industry that often forgets about the people involved.
In my career, I’ve worked for traditional property management companies that were purely numbers-driven. Everything came down to ROI, cost-cutting, and maximizing margins. On paper, it looked like we were succeeding. But behind the scenes, it was a different story: vendors were burning out from being squeezed too hard, employees were in constant turnover due to stress and lack of support, and tenants were treated more like transactions than people. It was rigid, impersonal, and exhausting. Even though the spreadsheets looked good, the day-to-day was anything but sustainable—or rewarding.
Then I joined a management company that took a completely different approach. Their focus was on relationships first—investing in vendor partnerships, truly listening to tenants, and creating a positive, empowering work environment for my staff. At first, I was skeptical. Could you really be profitable and lead with empathy in this industry?
But over time, I saw the impact: properties were better cared for because vendors felt valued and invested; tenants stayed longer and caused fewer issues because they were respected; and the team operated with a sense of purpose and pride. And yes—despite the higher upfront investment in people, the numbers not only held up—they improved. Retention was better, repair costs went down due to proactive care, and reputation drove more business.
That experience fundamentally reshaped my perspective and ultimately inspired me to start my own brokerage. I built it on that same philosophy: people first, always. Because when you prioritize relationships over rigid profit formulas, you create a ripple effect of trust, accountability, and long-term success.
The lesson? Profit and humanity aren’t mutually exclusive. In fact, putting people first is the most strategic investment you can make.

Brandi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Known as The Real Estate Shark—a nickname given to me by my very first client, and one I wear with pride to this day. But what most people don’t know is that it took me almost two decades to fully step into that identity.
For almost way too many years, I worked behind the scenes in property management. I developed deep expertise in how residential homes and apartments function as investments, how to manage risk, maximize returns, and keep properties thriving. But despite that experience, I held myself back from taking the leap into becoming a licensed broker. Why? Limiting beliefs. I told myself I wasn’t ready, that it was too late, that the market was too saturated, that I wasn’t good enough.
Eventually, I realized that those beliefs were the only thing standing between me and the career I always dreamed about since I was. kid—the one that would let me merge my operational background with my true passion: helping people navigate the emotional, financial, and strategic journey of buying, selling, and investing in real estate.
So I got licensed. And not long after, I took an even bigger leap and started my own brokerage. I leaned into everything I’d learned from nearly two decades in property management, layered in my love for residential sales, and built a brand focused on relationships, results, and relentless advocacy.
What sets me apart? For starters—I genuinely love what I do. This isn’t just a transaction for me; it’s an opportunity to make a lasting, positive impact on someone’s life. Whether it’s a first-time buyer, a seasoned investor, or a owner trying to navigate tenant challenges, I show up fully. I’m calm, fun, and relatable… until there’s blood in the water. Then it’s full shark mode—I negotiate fiercely, solve problems quickly, and fight for my clients like their goals are my own.
And that’s not just talk. I have shark attack success stories by the dozens—wins that made the difference in deals, kept clients from losing money, and turned what could have been stressful situations into empowering ones.
I help clients buy, sell, lease, and invest. I offer full-spectrum brokerage services that are backed by real-world property management knowledge, strategic negotiation, and a people-first mindset. I solve problems before they happen. I know how to protect the bottom line, but I also know how to make this process enjoyable, which—let’s be honest—isn’t something most people associate with real estate.
What I’m most proud of is the way my clients feel after working with me. They feel seen, heard, protected, and celebrated. Many of them become lifelong clients—and friends—because they know I’m in it with them, not just for them.
If there’s one thing I’d want potential clients to know, it’s this: I’m not your average agent. I’m a strategist. A protector. A passionate advocate. And when it’s time to go to battle for what you want? You’ll be glad you’ve got THE Shark in your corner.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Definitely. A few years back, I had a stretch where everything that could go wrong, did. I had two deals fall apart the same week—one due to a last-minute appraisal issue, the other from a seller backing out of a upcoming listing with me to go with a Facebook referral instead. At the same time, a tenant that decided to test every clause of their lease, and I was dealing with a major maintenance issue on a rental that turned into a financial mess. It felt like getting hit from every angle—professionally, emotionally, financially.
But here’s the thing: resilience isn’t about pretending it doesn’t suck—it’s about showing up anyway. I didn’t shut down. I called every client personally. I owned what needed to be owned. I found backup home for my buyer, got contractors out within 24 hours, and problem-solved like my reputation depended on it—because it did. And through all of it, I never stopped communicating, never stopped being real, and never let the chaos shake the trust I’d built.
Looking back, that season didn’t break me—it built the version of me that people now know as The Real Estate Shark. It taught me how to stay calm in the storm, fight for solutions, and lead from the front. Resilience isn’t just about bouncing back—it’s about refusing to disappear when it’s hard. That mindset is what’s carried me through every challenge since.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Honestly, just being real. In this industry, there’s a lot of noise—everyone’s trying to copy what the top agents are doing, chasing the same marketing formulas, the same social media strategies, the same polished scripts. But from day one, I made a conscious decision not to play that game. I didn’t want to build a brand based on someone else’s blueprint—I wanted mine to be rooted in who I actually am.
Clients can feel when you’re putting on a show. They know when it’s a sales act versus someone who’s genuinely in it with them. I built my reputation by showing up as myself—straightforward, aggressive when I need to be, protective of my clients’ interests, and always honest, even when it’s not what someone wants to hear. I don’t sugarcoat, and I don’t fake it. People respect that, and more importantly, they trust it.
Over time, that trust turned into loyalty. That loyalty turned into referrals. And the results followed. At the end of the day, you don’t become The Real Estate Shark by blending in—you earn that name by being unapologetically authentic and delivering real results in a way only you can.
It hasn’t always been easy, and it’s definitely taken time to gain momentum—but looking back almost six years later, I’m proud I trusted my gut and chose to be real from the very beginning, like a true Shark would do.
