Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandi Magna. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
A risk I have taken as a business owner would be implementing an upfront fee for our services rendered. Our fee is contingent on taxable savings so we would be doing a ton of work upfront and get paid after. We started implementing a small fee of $150 upfront (which goes towards your bill) and it has helped us tremendously. We got some push back but at the end of the day you only want a working relationship with those who value you and your time. You have to put yourself first while also doing what is right.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Brandi Magna and I am a 50% owner of Platinum Property Tax. I started working for a property tax consulting firm when I was 18 – and I eventually worked my way up from administrative to licensed agent. I worked two weeks in Dallas County for another company and made about twelve thousand dollars in commission….. I thought this was a lot! I stopped and wondered just how much I made my boss…… That was $147,500…. In a matter of TWO WEEKS. It was that moment I decided to branch out and start our own company and we have had great success since. We are able to have a much more personal approach and treat every case as if it were our own.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I truly believe the quality of service you provide will sell itself. If you go above and beyond with customer service and providing the services that you do, word of mouth referrals will accumulate automatically. “People will forget what you said – but they will never forget how you made them feel! – Maya Angelou”
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
A story of resilience would be a time where we were looking at alternatives for marketing. I was looking for local networking options and there was a substantial lack there-of. My friend Megan Dupuis posted in a local Facebook group about potentially starting a women networking group locally to get a feel for interest – and it exploded with hundreds of comments & interest. Fast forward to now 6 months later, we have founded “Lake Travis Women In Business” and have had such great success connecting and networking with hundreds local business women in our group. This just simply goes to show, you can be the solution to your own problem. You can look at it as an “excuse” or a “reason”.
