We recently connected with Brandi Jones and have shared our conversation below.

Brandi, appreciate you joining us today. Early in your career, how did you think through the decision of whether to start your own firm or join an established firm?

UMX was formed on Jun 1, 2020, by educators and entrepreneurs. After George Floyd death educators and professionals came together to calmness our community. We decided to create a 7 day event in only 7 days of planning. After the success of our event we sat back down and created a board of directors and birthed UMX. We started a Master Plan by tackling three issues for the year (diversity in Hammond, business growth, and economic development). During the work of our Master Plan, our business plan was drafted. We have successfully met our goals and mark. Bringing diversity to the Downtown area and building economic growth. UMX brings something special to the downtown Hammond area. We support business development, and we bring events that promote economic development.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Brandi Jones is a wife and mother of three. Brandi is the Chief Executive Officer of the Urban Market Experience UMX a business development company. UMX is headquartered in Louisiana and has opened a second location in Sacramento, California under the leadership of the esteemed founder, Brandi. This expansion is part of UMX’s strategic plan to support second stage businesses and entrepreneurs in their growth journey.

UMX is excited to partner with the city of Sacramento to provide resources and support to help these businesses thrive. Brandi has been working closely with the city officials to create a business-friendly environment that encourages growth and innovation. At UMX, Sacramento location they offer the same exceptional services and support that their clients have come to expect from them.

Brandi’s life mission is to empower people with financial literacy and advocate for human rights, sustainable living, and economic freedom. She is a prominent figure in community economics, healing communities, and providing hope to underprivileged and vulnerable populations.

Brandi’s success is a result of her collaborative nature, working closely with community members and developing positive working relationships with community stakeholders. She has dedicated countless hours to organizing community events, developing programs, and building economic growth. Her efforts have been recognized, and she has received several awards for her work.

Though simultaneously completing her undergraduate degree work in Human Services and becoming a certified Sustainable Neighborhood Developer, Brandi remains committed to serving her community. Also, helping small business owners grow through prosperity, networking, and continual education.

Brandi sits on the Urban League of Louisiana Small Business Advisory Council, is a Certified Sustainable Neighborhood Developer, and she is the New Orleans City Chair for G100 Oneness & Wisdom. Brandi’s goal in life is to be the example she seeks. Her hobbies are reading and traveling the world with her husband and their beautiful children.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

In 2020 we were asked by three black organizations to help with their petition to make police officers be required by law to wear their cameras, it was only mandated by their job, UMX agreed and received over 500 signatures. When it was time to go to the council meeting and request for the ordinance. The black organizations backed out and left the work for our new organization. We did not back down and worked with the city to bring this to forward gif the citizens of Hammond.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

When the community needed help, support, or answered questions since 2020. UMX has been the support and there with them to encourage and uplift.
