We were lucky to catch up with Brandi Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brandi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s easy to look at a business or industry as an outsider and assume it’s super profitable – but we’ve seen over and over again in our conversation with folks that most industries have factors that make profitability a challenge. What’s biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
Getting funding when starting from zero has probably been my biggest challenge amongst all challenges. Trying to paint a picture of a big dream with zero help and funding is very hard. Working with a team that’s motivated an see the bigger picture is hard also trying to convince your team of people that the light is on the other side is hard because they don’t realize that it takes consistency and time and everyone who is part of the beginning process every dollar helps. I had a bad first start up I lost 20,000 dollars on a major clothing investment an everything was printed wrong so I couldn’t really sell anything. The company I went through tried to fix the mistake and it was no coming back from it things only got worse I was devastated. All my savings went down the drain I still haven’t really recovered from the loss knowing I had to start from scratch but I never gave up

Brandi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into my line of business after being an Upcoming Recording Artist who wanted to expand the brand into more than just music and entertainment. We started off an a 3 man multi gender music group. We decided to make a clothing line called Dyffrent which in the name itself stands out to be different. We came up with the idea because we noticed all of us had a unique sound and style which gave each one of us our own lane. We wanted to let everyone no matter what the circumstances were including lgbt, people with special needs who had talent to show the world. No matter the gender Men, Women, and children of all walks of life welcome to be apart of a family oriented group

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to adjust to many losses in my line of business from loosing lots of money. I had to pause my business and work a regular 9-5 Fulltime to be able to survive my everyday life expenses. I had to go back an start over and start from scratch with little to no money and a dream despite of all the scams and sharks out there.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience by doing promotions and pushing my narrative so people can understand that we all are different in our own way and to be happy in their own skin
