We recently connected with Brandi Figueiredo and have shared our conversation below.
Brandi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I run all of Clarksville Crystal’s social medias completely on my own. It can be tough posting every single day and coming up with unique interactive posts, however, i absolutely love being the one to communicate and interact with my customers. Getting to know and talk with them overpowers any of the hard days we have.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For as long as I can remember, my mom has told stories of how “in tune” I always was to the energies around me. Be it a person, place, or item, I was very drawn to – or repelled by – them and the effects of having interacted with them could impact me for hours afterwards. Combine that with what my family thought was just a girl who loved nature and rocks, and my passion for crystals was born.
For many years, it was simply just a hobby, always picking up the “cool rocks” I would find on walks and collect. It wasn’t until after having my little girl and living first-hand the harsh realities of a single income household that i began wondering if i could turn my hobbies into a career. I was always told to chase my passion, not the money, and the money will follow; so with the encouragement of my fiancé, i took a leap of faith and began developing my business plan, setting up my website and buying inventory.
How did you build your audience on social media?
While i don’t feel i have a huge following on social media (yet), i think i am blessed to have tremendous support of family and friends who readily share or react with my posts. I try to post daily, as well as offer giveaways, discounts, sales, and constantly interact with my audience. I also try to show my appreciation to my customers by offering discount codes to returning customers, and if there’s any type of problem with any order, i respond quickly to make it right, be it replacing products, refunding, or so forth. A happy customer is a returning customer. Word of mouth was and is a big part of Clarksville Crystal’s growth.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
As previously mentioned, living first-hand the realities of being a single income household after having my daughter, funds weren’t always readily available. I saved as much as i could, as often as i could. It took months to acquire enough product to open Clarksville Crystals, as i could only get small amounts at a time. Everything i made immediately went right back in the shop to purchase more inventory.
