We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brandi Daniels a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandi, thanks for joining us today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
I was going through a hard time, I was super stressed out, exhausted and really struggling to figure out what direction my life was taking. I had just come back from a massive international trip and the highs from travel were wearing off. On paper everything looked great! I had a successful marketing agency, a dozen clients and life looked busy. In real life I was struggling, I was still ‘recovering’ from the last two Covid years and I was realizing my work no longer satisfied me. It wasn’t enough.
Then one day out of the blue, a friend I hadn’t seen in years text me and asked me to come to Hawaii with her. I (on auto pilot) wanted to say no. I was too busy to take off to Hawaii, plus we hadn’t seen each other in forever; but I said YES! Something bigger than my fear was taking over and told me this trip would be important.
This trip would ultimately change my life! As soon as I arrived, my friend rushed me into our AirBnB excited to ask me a question, she wanted to know if I’d ever heard of Human Design. I hadn’t really but invited her to tell me more – we ended up spending the whole week talking about, learning about it and I was in love! I knew with every fiber of my being that I had found what I was looking for. I knew that learning more Human Design and integrating it’s tools would show me more about myself than I could imagine. I also knew that if I could master this and share this with others on a deeper, soul level I too could transform lives.
It’s been almost a year and I haven’t stopped learning! The transformation I made in my life and relationships when I came back from Hawaii was powerful, the transformation in my business has been game changing – I immediately came back home and joined a certification program to become certified in Human Design. I now instruct and guide women who are just like I was (burnt out, overworked, looking for purpose and abundance) on their human design and help them to create the life they desire not the one they think they ‘should’.
Lastly I have fully stepped into my purpose of empowering women to take back their power, their bodies and their energy. I am also a full time Heels dance teacher in Oceanside – teaching women to embrace their sexuality and sensuality in a safe, and supportive environment.
I am forever grateful to my friend Marlys, a simple invitation to Hawaii -changed the trajectory of my life and that is by far the best gift and kindest thing anyone could ever do.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I instruct and guide women who are just like I was (burnt out, overworked, looking for purpose and abundance) on their human design journey and help them to create the life they desire not the one they think they ‘should’ have or want. Human Design is a tool that helps us to understand (and remember) our true selves, our essence and our energetic blueprint.
Many of us are operating in ways we are just not designed to, we push ourselves instead of working with our energy, we beat ourselves up for not ‘measuring up’ when all we’re really doing is comparing our picture to how someone else’s looks. Human Design is a powerful tool meant to empower and inspire and it works even greater when it’s integrated with some sort of embodiment practice.
Embodiment means, fully understanding and taking in the work not just reading and understanding it on a logical level but on a physical level. When you dance, meditate, do breathwork – you connect to all your senses and the deeper intuition in your body. You connect to yourself on a soul level.
I offer 1-on-1 mentorship, group coaching and retreats. I also do this work with individuals, couples and business teams.
Human Design and embodiment practices have been around for a long time! There are dozens of places you can find online to read and learn more but nothing compares to working with someone (like myself) who can tailor a program to you and for you; answer your questions on the spot and go deeper with you vs a cookie cutter program designed for the masses.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
I love this question! And for the first time I can answer this in an honest, authentic way! In my profession (the coaching profession) it’s unregulated, which is great on one hand and not so great on the other. You learn quickly (or experience) that there are a lot of inauthentic people out there doing this work because it’s trendy, and popular. They themselves, hire coaches and then regurgitate what they were taught but do not come up with anything original or a method or solution that is their own. What I think is the most helpful in succeeding in this field is:
1. Heart – have the heart and desire to truly want to help people. People come to us when their lives are upside down, they’re lost and the thing they thought they were, they wanted, they were striving for is no longer relevant. Be the person to listen, to hear them, to care and give them direction that is beneficial to their growth.
2. Be willing – be willing to go all the way for your clients, don’t just take them to the edge but hold their hand if they need it. Push them harder when they are stuck; listen when they just need to feel heard. Our clients pay us for results and that result is a transformation. If you can truly help them get on the other side of where they are feeling right now – it is your duty to do that.
3. Get out of your head! – Finally, get out of your head – this work is heart work not head work. There is no place for logic here, here we tap into our heart, soul and intuition. You can learn how to do just about anything between Google University and Youtube but what can’t be taught is trusting your own intuition and speaking from your heart, especially when you know it can help!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
When I stepped into being a Human Design and Gene Key guide, even a dancer, I had to UNLEARN a lot. I suffered greatly. from imposter syndrome for most of my life and here I was being told that I am enough. That I already know what to do and that everything I need is within me. I was told that the number of certificates and degrees on my wall weren’t that important; but what counted was my personal experience, my life experience and my ability to heal others intuitively. That was powerful.
