We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful BrandElsa Pereira. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with BrandElsa below.
Alright, BrandElsa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
In the vibrant tapestry of our daily lives, each of us navigates a unique journey filled with risks, but it’s the context that colors these moments. As a Black queer individual, every step I take into the realm of feminized attire feels like a daring venture – heels, skirts, makeup – a risk woven into the fabric of my self-expression. What might seem routine for some is a courageous act for me. These risks, however, have been instrumental in sculpting the proud life I lead today.
Perhaps the most monumental risk I undertook was embracing my authentic self, unapologetically expressing my gender and sexual identities. Growing up with a particular set of conditions and expectations the prospect of exploring a non-cishet existence felt like an insurmountable risk. But the pain and discomfort of not being authentic became too much. Despite the looming threat of severed family connections, I chose authenticity over conformity. Of course the reward did not show itself right away but it far outweighed the risk in the most beautiful of ways. Being so open brought more and more incredible people into my life that became pillars during the formative years of my queer existence.
The 2nd biggest risk I can think of was my decision to leave a company that I was so familiar with and venture out to create something of my very own. Leaving the comfort, security, and benefits of a stable job, I embraced the unpredictable path of entrepreneurship. I wrestled with the idea of saying goodbye to my life at sea to dedicate myself full time to becoming a motivational speaker and youth advocate. Armed with no contacts and a vague roadmap, I boldly introduced myself with these new titles. Remarkably, my words became prophetic, attracting opportunities and connections aligned with my aspirations. As my network expanded, so did the doors that opened, allowing me to actively participate in the very endeavors I had claimed from the outset. I have since then become a mentor with a local queer youth nonprofit in South Los Angeles, and became the first person to deliver a TED talk on stilts,
You gotta take the plunge before you figure out where you’re landing. It’s like jumping into the unknown and trusting it’ll all make sense along the way.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hey there, it’s your friendly neighborhood multi-hyphenate performer, speaker, and stilt walker hailing from sunny Inglewood, CA. Let me take you on a little journey through my world. Back in the day as a queer youth, I faced some unique hurdles, you know? Silent struggles and all that jazz. But guess what? I tackled those challenges head-on with a mix of mindfulness, creative expression, and a sprinkle of realizing I could be a positive force through storytelling. Fast forward to a decade-plus of globetrotting glory! Picture this: Disney Parks, Disney Cruise Line, and Sesame Workshop. I’ve been bringing the magic to thousands with performances that scream “engaging” and “immersive.” Oh, did I mention my innate desire for all things magical? Yep, that’s the secret sauce.
Then 2020 hit, and bam! I birthed Haus of Elevation – an impact-driven dream machine. I’m on a mission to build community, develop resilience, and enrich the lives of young souls through empowerment workshops. I do all of this while balancing on 3 foot stilts. Right now, I’m donning the mentor hat for queer youth at Rainbow Labs in South LA, and I’m also the co-owner of Entertainment Café, where we whip up some live street theater magic.
I’m always open to collaboration and partnership opportunities! Connecting with like-minded individuals who share a passion for empowerment, creativity, and making a positive impact is something I cherish.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is fueled by a passionate commitment to inspire and empower the next generation. I’ve had my share of stumbles and setbacks, navigating the challenges of being a queer youth in a world that didn’t always understand. Now, armed with mindfulness practices, creative expression, and the sheer power of storytelling, my mission is crystal clear.
I founded Haus of Elevation with a laser-focused goal: to spark a fire of authenticity and unapologetic courage in the hearts of young minds. It’s about creating spaces where empowerment isn’t just a buzzword but a tangible force that propels individuals toward their truest selves.
My journey is a testament to the transformative power of embracing one’s authenticity. So, the goal? It’s to be a guiding light, encouraging others to unlock their potential, embrace their uniqueness, and boldly walk their path towards radical self-acceptance. Because in this vast creative landscape, my purpose is to leave a trail of inspiration that others can follow on their own incredible journeys.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the absolute best part of being an artist or creative is the deep connection I get to forge with people. When I put my heart and soul into my work, be it a performance, a presentation, or any form of expression, I’m essentially sharing a piece of who I am with the world. The real magic happens when someone else vibes with that creation on a personal level.
There’s this incredible satisfaction in knowing that my work can stir emotions, provoke thoughts, or even be a source of inspiration for someone else. Whether I’m up on a stage, telling a story through my art, or trying to convey a message, the real joy comes from connecting with others in a meaningful way. Art has this fantastic ability to break down barriers, and the thought that something I’ve created might touch someone’s heart or spark their imagination is what lights the creative fire within me. It’s these connections and the potential to make a positive impact that keep me passionate and motivated as a creative soul.
