We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Braijene Fletcher . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Braijene below.
Braijene , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
When I think of being successful. I think of my identity in Christ. That includes the kind of person I am, the way I talk, my thoughts, and in this case, my intentions with my business. I think people of the world has pointed being rich as being successful but I believe if a person has all the money in the world but is not happy, it is not success at all. Of course, we hear all the time that the main goal in life is to be happy. For me, I found my happiness in Jesus Christ and because Him, I am able to have a different view on what being successful is. I’m an author and I published my first book, The Sanative Rose at the beginning of 2022. I recently received a review about my book and it brought me to tears knowing that the book I wrote impacted someone’s life the way I hoped it would. That is being successful to me. Having a sound mind with good intentions and being without negativity is being successful to me. The best thing is to not focus on any current situations and to always look toward a better future. Our wildest and biggest imaginations can come true if we believe and have faith in God!

Braijene , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. I attend Wayne State University as a business management student. Although I am studying business, I have a passion for writing, acting, dancing, drawing, and photography. In February of 2022, I self-published my first book, “The Sanative Rose.” It’s a coming-of-age story about a teen, type 1 diabetic.
I also sell mugs that I designed myself.
Writing stories/poetry has been a very important factor in my life since I was in elementary school. I had a goal of writing “The Sanative Rose” when I was 14 and am so proud that 4 years later, that goal came to past. There were so many obstacles I faced while writing the story and during the publishing process but I’m so grateful!
I’ve been drawing since elementary as well and I knew someday I would love to showcase my art and with the help from my mom and sisters, my art is printed on mugs!
I want my books to hopefully help or encourage people all over the world by giving them insight into the gospel and Kingdom living. It’s a very beautiful life and I want to share love with others!

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I sold my books on both Amazon Kindle and my website and my mugs on my website. The pros of selling my books on website was very beneficial. The site I used came with an app as well so I could easily see who purchased an item. Many people would send me messages through my “Get in Touch” and that worked very well! I could easily respond and send tracking messages to anyone that purchased an item.
The cons of using a website is it can be expensive to keep the website running well with the best benefits available.
The cons of using Amazon Kindle is the formatting of the book for the Kindle was a bit difficult to gather. I personally had a hard time uploading my book.
The pros of using Amazon Kindle is I love that someone can leave reviews and rate the book.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I was able to have help from my immediate family, my church home family, and The Black Business School.
