We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bradley Rodgers a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Bradley, thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
The insurance industry for the last ~25 years (since the dot-com boom) has been transitioning to a completely automated experience. While the convenience of this is great it’s leaving everyday people, who don’t know the ins and outs of insurance, with large gaps in coverage that could potentially change their life if they were involved in a serious claim. Every day you see commercials and ads about going online and saving money on your insurance but not once do these commercials really breakdown coverage and what you’re paying for. I’ve made it a point with all my clients to not only price shop for them, but also educate them on what options are available and how certain coverages work. I see all too often people post online about their insurance company not paying out on a claim and they’re upset, when this person just didn’t purchase the correct coverage/endorsement that was needed to make that specific loss covered. In a business society that moves further and further from providing customer service and treating the customer with respect, we strive to hold on to the values that we opened our doors with. From step A – Z I work within client’s budgets and present all available options then let them choose what is most important.
Bradley, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m an agent/partner with Bird’s Eye Insurance which is an Independent Agency located in Texas and Louisiana. Our agency represents a diverse mix of companies (over 100) allowing us to find competitive rates for our clients. We write all lines of insurance, from Personal Automobile, Homeowner’s, Umbrella, Specialty Lines to Commercial Automobile, Property, General Liability, and Worker’s Compensation. We’ve insured just about everything you can think of from personal assets, planes, body parts (prosthetics, etc..), animals, and even someone’s life.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I love working with referrals! For me knowing that someone is referred to me tells me the person that sent them trust me enough to help their family, friends, etc. It’s always a wonderful experience to see someone in the early stages of me meeting with them not really understand what options are available to being informed and educated and confident in their choice. Many of my clients all have relayed the same sentiment at one point they hate paying for insurance because they often don’t use it, but once you know exactly what you’re paying for it makes that monthly/yearly payment a little easier to swallow.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I tell all my clients both new and existing, they’re family now. Most, if not all, of my clients have my cell number and can reach me anytime. I also generally friend my clients on social media. I don’t have anything to hide from them. With social media I can be in front of them 24/7 and I don’t have to worry about when they see an insurance commercial on TV to go online and save because they’d just call me and ask questions rather than going online and leaving. My clients are my family, and my retention ratio is strong.
