Alright, Bradley thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
We started Val Barber in 2022 after I had already been in the business for nearly 20 years. I think it was the right time. I pull a lot from my previous experience working for others in management and as a barber. The right opportunity and location came along as well. Some of these things you’ve got to be ready for and just can’t force timing wise.
Bradley, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a barber, and along with my business partner, Rafael Bermudez, run a 5 chair shop in Valley Village, CA. We keep things small and personal. Our location has been a barbershop for as long as we’ve been alive, although it’s only been under the Val Barber name and ownership for the last few years. We love that we can carry the torch as a staple of the community.
How’d you meet your business partner?
My business partner and I worked together as barbers in this very same location before we became owners. Once the location was left vacant we shared the same desire to keep things going here in Valley Village. Things came together kind of last minute, but also worked out perfectly. Sometimes you get lucky with things like that and have to take the opportunity when it pops up.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Referrals are amazing, but you can’t beat the power of Google. When people are new to an area and look up “haircut near me” they are going to see our name pop up first along with hundreds of glowing reviews that our clients have left us. That’s the gift that keeps on giving, and unlike advertising it doesn’t cost anything.
