We were lucky to catch up with Bradley Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bradley , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear your thoughts about making remote work effective.
As a self-employed small business owner, I’ve worked mainly remotely since 2012. Any difficulties mostly revolve around not having in-person interaction with clients, colleagues, and collaborators. Of course, it’s easy to stay in touch by phone, text, and Zoom, and it’s essential to be available to clients during the work week and to provide weekly updates. Being able to relocate from Los Angeles to a beautiful rural area in Northern California is an obvious benefit, and so is the ease of traveling anywhere, being so close to San Francisco.
Bradley , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
After working in the travel industry early on, learning organizational skills in planning and managing travel for businesses, VIP individuals, and groups, I had an excellent opportunity to use many of those skills as an assistant to an international film public relations executive. As a travel agent, I worked with creative clients such as actors and filmmakers, which benefitted my transition to entertainment PR. Learning from the ground up, I worked as a publicity assistant for films and filmmakers of foreign and domestic independent film releases. Eventually, I became a film publicist, a senior film publicist, and a VP of a boutique public relations firm specializing in representing producers and international distributors, developing a career as a senior entertainment and literary publicist, consultant, and writer with over 20 years of experience in public relations campaigns for films representing filmmakers and producers, including studio releases and awards campaigns. In 2017, I began working with authors and publishers on books. I’m also a screenwriter, so working with many talented authors and filmmakers is inspiring.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Reading or watching the fantastic books and films by the clients I’m fortunate to work with inspires me to do the best job I can for them as a publicist, write better, and write more.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Referrals from clients I’ve worked with before and Julia and Jared Drake, the talented colleagues I’m lucky to collaborate with at Wildbound Literary PR.
