Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bradley Donahue. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Bradley, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I would say life is much more enjoyable as a creative. There is something to be said about the feeling of carrying out one’s imagination and passion’s. Spending personal time and energy bringing them to life. I often find myself bouncing between freelance work and the regular type, “9-5” work, All of which have their own merits. Recently while working a freelance project, I found myself a bit stressed out. lost in the feeling of losing control of time. I felt my “regular job” demanded too much time and energy. Offered less compensation and even less respect or motivation for a job well done. I was conflicted with feelings, thinking to myself I should be grateful to have time to also pursue my creative endeavors. But of course the artist perspective has a way of affecting the outlook of a “Regular job.” Acting as an artist or creative, dedicating time to your craft and seeing your work through truly has an effect on you. We tend to want to make an impact with our work, and I find i often don’t fit into the systems. There is nothing like working for yourself and on your craft. Creative art makes the “Regular job” seem much more dull, often left me feeling less rewarded, less motivated. This moment was a strong reminder to appreciate what I had and to acknowledge the hard work and growth that comes along with the career path of an artist or creative person
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
After years of being a hobbyist musician and producer I opened my doors as a recording engineer and began working with artist from many backgrounds while producing and recording various styles of music, often working on a lot of pop and hip-hop. During this time, I was able to refine my mixing skills during this time and found joy from helping artist create and realize their sound or “vision.” Since then I have enjoyed working as a freelance producer and mix engineer providing original compositions, instrumentals, and recording and mixing services.
It was also during this time that I found myself diving deeper into my own craft as an artist and a composer. Taking a hiatus, I poured myself into my work for thousands of hours and years to follow.
After my experiences, the stories told, and feelings shared I began releasing music as Near/Far – Artist, Composer, and Producer exploring futuristic and cinematic experiences by blending various styles of electronic, orchestral, and urban music. I hope to tell my story and help others to share theirs through my artist releases and work as a composer in the music and video game industries.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
As simple as it may sound, I just want to remind others to “feel.” In this day an age I think it is important to really be mindful of one’s self and others. I hope to help create more meaningful experiences with others and share in the creative and positive endeavors. I feel that music is a universal language with the ability to communicate feelings at a level we don’t fully understand. Through music I have found myself aligned with my passions and I strive to make an impact while helping other’s share their experiences so we may all elevate our consciousness .
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Having someone tell you you’ve made an impact on them. Is probably one of the most rewarding and surreal experiences as an artist. For example, when people have told me my music helped them through a bad day, inspired creativity, or even helped them through an experience or thought. It is a beautiful reminder of how connected we all are and to never doubt even the smallest of actions.
