Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bradley Banks. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Bradley, thanks for joining us today. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
Honestly, I’m still in the process LOL. I didn’t know I was a business until I started operating as one. So for a while, I was getting booked without having all of my business in order I would just show up and sing. Although my background was in artist management I knew how to handle business for others but when it came to myself I was slacking. I took a moment to become my own client and put myself through my management plan. Came up with my values and mission and then set up my socials. I then registered an LLC and opened a business account. This just got the ball rolling and now everything is legitimized. 6 years later I’m still trying to figure out my best practices but it’s a daily task. Really the thing that keeps me going is faith. I might not know the outcome but if the idea is good to me it has to be to someone else. I have the tendency to bounce around from idea to idea but I have changed my focus to having and completing one fully before moving on to the next. Another big part of making sure I complete task was putting together the right team. People that believe in me and that are experts in their various responsibilities. Bradley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I like to tell people that I am an Ambassador of Worship. What is that? I have been sent here to earth to be a spokesperson for the kingdom of heaven. I do this through music and intimate worship encounters. I also travel internationally and use music as a tool to tell others about the freedom that I have found in my faith journey and about my personal relationship with Jesus. Also to inspire them into pursuing a deeper understanding and relationship with Him. I host worship events and lead conferences all over the US.
I also am a signed songwriter, my pen transcends the world of worship and writes songs about life, love, and hope. Oftentimes time artist will hire me to vocal coach their sessions. I help them achieve their best vocal while recording and even sing the demo or lay background vocals. You have to wear multiple hats to be successful in this industry.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I was recently diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Failure. I have to do dialysis for 13 hours a day and I honestly have felt like I wanted to give up. In the midst of having to literally make some crazy lifestyle adjustments, I have also had to maintain my image and business. I already had some singles planned for rollout so while in the hospital I released a new single and shot a video. I capitalized on a horrible situation and used what I had at the moment. Now that my treatments are in full swing I have had to adjust but when I’m able to I’m still performing and hitting the studio. I have to just take my time to rest now and listen to the needs of my body. Although this is a reality of mine my faith makes me stronger. With Christ, I can literally do anything. I believe that Jesus is more than able to heal me. In the meantime, I got a lot of music to release. With that being said make sure you check out my upcoming single “Yours”!!
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
This journey from the outside looking in can be glamorous. I’m telling you it’s not and it’s not for everybody to understand. Nothing will replace the feeling you get when your art moves someone in a specific way. Sometimes our art isn’t even for us to use as an outlet but oftentimes our art is for our audience. Even if it is an audience of 1 they deserve to experience our creations and for that, we have to keep creating. Sometimes it doesn’t make the most sense financially but the reward is always greater. So whatever idea you have do it! Perfect it! Release it and let the art do exactly what it was created to do. No idea is too stupid or too grand just do it! If you need to scale it back a little that’s fine; find the essence and it will be received. It will also reciprocate exactly what you need.
