We were lucky to catch up with Braden Detelich recently and have shared our conversation below.
Braden , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I started doing music after breaking my femur in 2014 playing LaCrosse. I ended up having surgery to repair it and would listen to musical artists Avicii while recovering. To help me occupy my time I started to play around DJ’ing and producing. Eventually I would start playing for family parties and events before moving into local events. I started performing at larger events and eventually released my debut single “Voices”. Once I released it and it started gaining traction, I thought “hey, maybe I can do something with this.” Fast forward, I ended up performing at bigger and more notable festivals and clubs while also producing more music. I fell in love with performing and making music and it led me to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Audio Engineering Technology while minoring in Music Business. Currently I’m performing all over while producing my own music and collaborating with others on the professional level!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Braden Detelich was born in Columbus, Ohio on January 6, 2000. He was brought up and raised in Ohio until he moved to Illinois in the eighth grade. While living in Ohio, he was a member of the orchestra in elementary school playing the cello and moved on to the drum set once in middle school. Once he moved to Illinois, following a femur injury caused from playing Lacrosse, he got into DJ’ing and Music Production while recovering. He listened to Tim Bergling better known as Avicii and felt inspired by his music. Braden saw him as an Idol and wanted to do what Avicii did. After moving to Illinois in 2015, Braden started doing gymnastics as a form of physical therapy for his femur injury. He later joined the USTA Team and competed for his club. In 2015, he competed for his gymnastics club “Kids In Action Gymnastics Academy”, he was nationally ranked in power tumbling, double mini, and trampoline concluding the USTA National meet in Grand Rapides, South Dakota. He took a year off and regained his national status competing in the USTA 2017 National meet located in Madison, Wisconsin. Besides his club gymnastics, he has been competing on the Barrington High School Varsity Men’s Gymnastics Team all four years. Braden competed all around but mainly specialized on floor and vault where he was the only one to perform two double-back flips in one routine. He gained state status during his career at Barrington High School. Braden was also a member of Barrington High Schools Varsity CO-ED Cheer Team were they placed at state. While Braden was recovering from his femur injury, he started listening to EDM style music particularly songs by the artist Tim Bergling better known as Avicii. He started to DJ on smaller controllers like the Numark IDJ-3. Braden then started working on his own remixes, mashups, and soon original tracks such as his premier single “Voices”. Braden now has multiple albums and singles out now surpassing one million streams and downloads! Besides the music, Braden also is a frequent contender in DJ competitions to win sets and to show off his skills. Braden recently graduated from Belmont University majoring in Audio Engineer Technology and minoring in Music Business. Recently Braden has finished an abroad study trip in Frankfurt with Stefan Dabruck Management and has a bunch of new songs coming out, so stay tuned!

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One of my stories relating to a time I demonstrated resilience would be the beginning of the 2021 school year. Beside my music career, I’m an elite level gymnast and Division 1 Cheerleader for Belmont University. During our pre-tryout session, I was tumbling and ended up having a fall that resulted in a sever brain bleed. At first I was told I would be out anywhere from 1-2 years and would most likely have to stop music due to my brain trauma. Fast forward I was resilient in my recovery and started slowly progressing. Within four months I was starting to slowly go back to my athletic career and progressed back into music. My first big test to see if I could be resilient and return to my passion was performing as a headliner for Belmont University’s Country Showcase. Everything went well and I fully recovered and returned to my passion. In short, that experience taught me how to adapt and be resilient and not get fed up on obstacles thrown you way. In the end everything will work out!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Personally for me since I deal with music, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when I perform and people know my music or call me out when in public. I make music to connect with people so when I perform and people sing along to my lyrics and know the songs, I feel overwhelmed. The best is when I get direct messages or hear stories of how my music touched them or helped them. To me that’s the most rewarding aspect, knowing that I made a true impact in someones life.
