We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brad Williams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brad below.
Brad, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Some things just fall into your lap. My friend was starting a coffee shop and Church and State needed someone to help them coordinate weddings and events. We started to brainstorm and thought it would be fun to throw our own events. Make them immersive, make them artistic, basically make things that we wanted to exist. So we got started and through some trial and error the SLC Lunatics were born.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The SLC Lunatics are busy Bringing movers & shakers together to experience the unique & exuberant underbelly of SLC!
We craft themed, experiences where we break the wall between performer, art, music, and audience. We create environments built by local artists where you can walk through, be surrounded by, and partake of the event.
From moving dancers, wandering minstrels, one on one experiences, and immersive environments, our unique eclectic parties are like you stepped in a Gatsby moment.
We encourage you to dress the part, and we always plan so many experiences that it would be impossible for one person to have them all.
How’d you meet your business partner?
My co-founder Paulina Pereira and I met at an event. It was Covid times and social distancing was a thing. We got invited to a private event by the circus group voodoo productions. You had to have proof of negative covid test and it was under 50 people.
For what it was it was an amazing configuration of entertainers, dancers, and wonder. Paulina and I both became fans, and kept going, and during our social hours we talked about how we would do events if we ever got the chance, and started coming up with ideas.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
With events, we thought we needed to have big names in the art and performance world in order to draw people in. We went that route on our first few events getting big names, but what we found, is that finding talent, and creating an amazing atmosphere was more important than a big name on the marque. It was a tough lesson to learn, but now we just follow our heart and pick performers and experiences that we KNOW are going to be a vibe.
