Brad, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the decision of whether to donate a percentage of sales to an organization or cause – we’d love to hear the backstory of how you thought through this.
One of our initiatives for 2023 is to further commit to be a great friend to the North Texas region that we call home. We previous won the Governor’s Small Business Award for Corporate Responsibility and the Home Furnishings Association’s Retailer of the Year award in part due to our efforts to give back to the DFW community.
We want to reward non-profit organizations for referring their members to our local business. They can register their organization with us and we will rebate 100% of the local delivery fee to their organization when their supporter tells us to do so at the time of sale. It’s our way of giving back to our local community as thanks for supporting our family owned small business since 1970. We can also work with organizations on hosting special give back events to donate a portion of the entire sale to their organization.

Our outdoor furniture is meant to last for many years or even decades – we have even heard stories of parents passing down their old furniture down to their children. So many people today end up buying what we call “disposable” furniture – it might look just like what we carry and cost 1/4 of the price, but it’s not the same on the inside. The cushion will fade and flatten, the paint will peel and blister, and in a few years, it will be put out on the curb. We look at our product as in investment constructed by reputable manufacturers made with fade-resistant fabrics, powder-coated finishes, UV-inhibitors, and industry-leading warranties; The difference truly is in the details.

Sunnyland Outdoor Living hosts the 7th Annual North Texas EGGfest on Saturday, October 21, 2023. This family-friendly event features teams competing on the Big Green Egg to win bragging rights as the 2023 North Texas EGGhead of the Year. Guests will be able to vote for their favorite items prepared on the Big Green Egg. Guests will enjoy tasty samples, live music and receive special deals on Big Green Eggs and quality outdoor furniture. Carter Bloodcare will be hosting a community blood drive at the event as well. Funds raised will benefit Chef to the Shelters.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I think the best resource is learning hands-on from others. Several years ago I had the opportunity to spend a few days at a top 100 furniture retailer. Myself and other smaller retailers in our group spent time seeing how they operated all of the aspects of their business.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
We use social media, email, and other traditional marketing tools. We also try to keep in touch with the little extras like handwritten thank you notes, special thank you offers, referral rewards thru our Sunshine Club, and even free gifts like bottles of our Sun-Sational House Blend Seasoning.
