Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brad Ramsey . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brad , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
While it is important in my industry to be talented and capable, the thing I want people to walk away from their time working with me believing is that I was always kind, truthful, and transparent. And that I care about them, their dreams, and their home. My passion for designing is fueled by my love for people. I would not be interested in design if the only point of it were to display my personal artistry. Like a painter inspired by their subject matter, the people I work with inform the design and ultimately unlock my creativity. I take time to get to know them so that what we create is reflective of them and not me. My taste and aesthetic are woven throughout the design, but I take great care to ensure each home is suitable for that individual client. I hope my legacy will be that I mirrored people well through great design!

Brad , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I landed in Nashville, TN, in 1999 after leaving my Georgia roots to pursue one of my many artistic passions, songwriting. That journey eventually led me out of the music industry and into design. I began my career in 2008 at a local Nashville interior design studio that went on to have its own show on HGTV. As a creative, I’ve always maintained an impeccable eye for detail and a keen sense of what makes an environment feel curated and collected. With my gained experience, I founded Brad Ramsey Interiors in 2012, offering a full range of tailored interior design services. Since then, my team and I have built and reimagined homes and commercial spaces around the country using my intuitive approach to design to capture each client’s unique personality and lifestyle.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I chose to build slowly and intentionally. I had a business advisor break down my previous salary and show me how much work I needed to do hourly to match that. It seemed very doable, and actually, in my first year, I made 20% over my previous salary. But I lived as if I was making less. As my business grew, I added staff and infrastructure. Started investing in advertisement. But in the beginning, I worked out of my home and served as the designer, accountant, and delivery team all in one. Eventually, jobs got bigger, and I could add my first assistant to handle day-to-day office tasks so I could focus on design. Today, I have a beautiful commercial space, a full-time staff of three, a part-time billing manager, and a warehouse that receives, inspects, stores, and delivers all of our orders. I believe in saving and reinvesting in the business rather than acquiring debt right at the start. Sometimes this means you have to be patient and grow at the rate you can afford, but it works if you work hard!

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I don’t think most people, especially non-creatives, realize how much time and attention to detail it takes to do my job. Architects get to focus on the house plan. Builders get to focus on the materials and installation. I am called on to review and weigh in on the architectural plans before the build. And then, I make all of the material selections, cabinet plans, tile drawings, lighting layouts, and details that the builder needs to create the final product. I am on the job site regularly, ensuring the build is coming together as originally envisioned. And I am asked to weigh in on challenges that arise. So I have to be able to wear a lot of hats and work alongside other experts and speak their language. All this before we even start furniture, fabrics, rugs, and finishing touches. I am fully immersed in every project and carry a lot of weight on my shoulders to ensure the ship is sailing in the right direction. I love it all, but it can be daunting at times!
