We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brad Harlan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brad below.
Hi Brad, thanks for joining us today. Have you ever had an amazing boss? What did you learn from them? Maybe you can share a story that illustrates the kind of boss they were or maybe you can share your thoughts on what you think made them an awesome person to work for?
I’ve worked for a lot of amazing people – I feel so blessed. I used to be LeAnn Rimes Personal Assistant / House Manager – she was amazing and has a huge heart. She taught me a lot about the finer things in life and about self-love. I’ve also worked for Lynn McBee (Dallas Philanthropist and CEO for Young Women’s Preparatory Network) and she has taught me about giving back and showing grace. She has volunteered over 45,000 hours, fights for people and genuinely makes a difference in lives. It’s infectious. I’ve seen both women work from early morning to late night, not complain and just make a difference.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My best friend, Chrissy and I decided to start the business. Initially, she made the candles and I sold them. With us living in different cities, her raising a family and me with a full time job, it made scents (pun intended!) for her me to start making my candles and her do hers. We still help each other and run ideas off each other. She really helped me make scents that stand out, are unique and high end. I want my scents to stand out and be comforting – I also want them to look luxurious, yet be affordable. During my downtime, I’m mixing scents and asking my friends, “What do you think about this? What’s this missing?” Each candle is made in small batches and are hand poured.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think have a great product that I fully believe in has helped me build my reputation. I am proud of my candles and genuinely love them. I believe people can feel that and it radiates.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
I just believe in treating people good. This is a business and I have to run it as a business, but I treat people like I want to be treated. I believe in working hard and playing hard. I was a personal assistant in my previous life and I love to take care of people- whether it’s us going to dinner and drinks, me cooking or surprising my team with a little something special!
