We were lucky to catch up with Bracquel Beachner recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Bracquel, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
Fashion has always been a part of my life, but I had never looked at it as a profitable career, nor did I know it was possible. Since a young age, I remember sitting in class and all I could think about was clothes and how to put different clothes together to make a fire outfit for whatever occasion I had coming up. I struggle with mental illness, so creating fashion became an outlet for me. A blank canvas, as you will. I watched YouTube videos on how to tie-dye, sew, rework and design. I knew my grandma knew how to sew, so I started off by having her show me how to sew in my woven labels and it was game over from there. I turned this all into the authentic brand “BracquelB” that is personal and gives women the purpose of having a voice, as well as keeping a life long vision. It represents who I am as a person and what I stand for.
Bracquel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My brand is called BracquelB and I am a fashion designer. With life and manifestation, this industry sort of fell into my lap and became natural. I am self taught and have always had a business mindset. I put all those skills together and created my brand. I knew if I didn’t want to work for someone else my whole life, this was the way I was going to do it. If other people could do it, why couldn’t I? That is what always kept me pushing. But more than anything, I wanted to create an opportunity for the people around me that also had this burning passion as a creator. I wanted to inspire people and let them know, that they could do it too and that it is most definitely possible to turn your passion and purpose in life into a career. All it takes is discipline and a true belief in yourself.
I tie-dye, sew, and design for myself, as well as, collaborating brands. I solve problems by using these skills to help entrepreneurs make more money, while also building a reputation as leaders in American fashion through our clean aesthetic and innovative designs.
I also own and design a streetwear brand as well called “Crown Aces” This brand represents entrepreneurs and creatives who aren’t afraid to take the risk and go for what they love in life, regardless of society not believing in them or their lifestyle. Crown aces are motivated and strive to be the best they can be at their craft.
I am most proud of the way my clients feel while wearing my clothing. I want them to feel something and be proud of the brand they are representing. What you wear is everything, from how you feel, who you are, I like to be a part of that for people.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Not too long after the birth of my son, I was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. I knew that in order to be the good mom that my son deserved, I had to take care of myself. I knew that just because I was suffering from this, did not mean life was going to stop. Shortly after that, I unknowingly entered an abusive relationship that truly beat down my confidence and I had lost every single part of who I was. I could barely look at myself in the mirror. I remember sitting on my utility room floor crying and staring at the walls thinking how did I ever allow this to take over myself and my life? Nobody deserves to live or feel like that. I picked myself up and kept going, I turned my pain into passion. Flipped the switch. Now I am on a path of healing, love and happiness. I’ve been put down so many times, went broke, lost my job, but never used any of it as an excuse to stop my life or give up.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I funded and started my business doing bottle service and bartending at a nightclub. The money was so fast I was able to continuously keep buying new inventory and still pay for my everyday life.
