We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bracha Goetz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Bracha, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Well, I did have a regular job, but even then I was still writing picture books on the side. I am very happy to be a creative. When I am being creative, the Source energy that flows through the Universe is being channeled through me so it is a very joyful experience. You know, when you are in the creative process – you don’t feel like eating or sleeping – you are kind of beyond time.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m the Harvard- educated author of 42 books that help children shine and also a raw and candid memoir for adults about my spiritual journey to joy called, Nourish the Soul: Filling the Emptiness Within. I like to right away tell people that I went to Harvard because it helps people see that even though my books may seem simple, they really manage to convey deep and important concepts to young children in a readily absorbable joyful way.
My books also help to eliminate the entitlement epidemic, helping to instill mindful gratitude in children as early in life as possible – so they don’t have to play catch-up like us! :)
The best place to meet up with my books is on my website, www.goetzbookshop.com.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
After suffering for years with food addictions, I learned my inner emptiness was not a physical hunger, but a spiritual one. So now I share through my writing and presentations how practicing simple gratitude fills our genuine hunger with the lasting pleasure we deeply crave.
I love introducing people young and old to the ancient yet timeless wisdom found on The Pleasure Ladder where gratitude is the only price you need to pay to experience transformative joy. Now people are discovering how to incorporate moments of gratitude throughout the day, replacing feelings of fear and disconnection with loving compassion and fulfillment.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, I’m really into getting the ego out of the way in a creative journey. As Wayne Dyer explained, “Success is an inside job.” We don’t feel pressured or burn out when we recognize that our creative abilities are gifts of infinite energy flowing through us into the world from the cosmic Source of all. So the goal driving my creative journey now is sharing the purpose of life with others. What is the purpose of life? To experience the greatest pleasure possible! And what is the greatest pleasure possible? The spiritual pleasure that gratitude brings us!
