Boualem, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

My purpose in life is deeply rooted in the power of entertainment, particularly through film and TV. In my journey across different countries and cultures, I have witnessed firsthand the power of storytelling in fostering understanding and empathy. I have seen how a simple film or TV show has the ability to transcend boundaries and touch the hearts of people from diverse backgrounds.

My life’s mission is to build a bridge across borders, using the vehicle of entertainment, and to help people truly appreciate our diversities. Having been born in Algeria, North Africa, and having lived in various countries before settling in the U.S., I have gained a unique perspective on life. It has taught me that what may initially appear as our differences, which many often criticize, are actually precious gifts that can bring us closer if we learn to appreciate one another. I want people to see that despite our contrasting backgrounds, we are all part of the same human race. That is why I founded aMENAcan, a company dedicated to showcasing stories from the Middle East and North Africa. Through these narratives, I aim to demonstrate that, at our core, we all experience the same struggles and share the same humanity.

In a world that often feels divided, I firmly believe that entertainment can be a catalyst for change. It can spark conversations, challenge biases, and inspire individuals I to see beyond their own perspectives

I have a strong belief in the power of positive stories that promote equality and foster understanding among people. With my background as a development executive, film/TV producer, and international consultant for the film industry, I aim to build bridges that connect us all and make a positive impact on humanity.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

One important lesson I had to learn in my entrepreneurial journey is to not rely solely on my family’s approval when making decisions. It’s okay if they don’t understand or support my vision, as their intention is to protect me.

As children, we naturally seek guidance and assistance from our parents. However, when we choose to pursue our passions as entrepreneurs instead of following traditional paths like law or medicine, many parents struggle to see the potential in our choices. They want us to succeed and therefore try to steer us towards what they believe is the safest route to success. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s important to remember that our visions and aspirations may not align with theirs.

In such situations, it’s crucial to trust our instincts and have faith in ourselves. We must let go of any doubts and embrace the belief that we know what’s best for us. After all, nobody knows us better than we know ourselves. So, let go of any hesitation and confidently pursue your dreams.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?

One resource that I wish I had known about earlier is online communities and forums dedicated to creativity. These platforms allow us to connect with like-minded individuals, share your work, and receive valuable feedback and inspiration from others

From an entrepreneurial perspective, the most important resource I wish I had known about earlier is the power of networking events and business communities. These platforms provide opportunities to connect with other entrepreneurs, share experiences, and gain valuable insights and advice from those who have already walked the entrepreneurial path. Lastly, reading books and biographies of successful entrepreneurs can offer inspiration and valuable lessons that can shape our entrepreneurial journey.
