We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Boston Mikesell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Boston below.
Boston, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you’re open to it, can you talk to us about the best (or worst) investment you’ve made. What’s the backstory and the relevant context behind why you made the investment
We started our social media channels back in 2016 and started just by posting daily consistent vlogs for about two years. We were filming just about everyday and editing for hours. We ran the whole channel by ourselves (keep in mind we were about 12 years old and in elementary school haha). Many days felt like we were progressing and we were just stuck.
We kept doing it and just had hope that maybe a video would blow up and that could help us reach our goal of hitting 10k subscribers.
We kept being consistent up until May 2018 and these other YouTubers wanted to collaborate on a video. We were ecstatic! We couldn’t believe it! We filmed a “Pool Tricks Challenge” with The LeRoy’s and when we posted that video we hit 10k subscribers the following day.
Since that day we kept growing and now we have hit 600k subscribers!
One of the best investments we made was just to stick to it and keep posting consistently. How I like to think of it is kind of like college. You take class for all these years and are unsure of the outcome, flash forward a few years and now you are able to get a job using your degree.
Sometimes you just need to sacrifice the time and just put the trust in what you are doing. For many years we were just making penny’s! We are just both so grateful that we stuck to it and eventually things all worked out the way we wanted it to.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
One thing we are so proud to say is that we started our social media channels all by ourself! We spent nights editing our videos and the days recording. It was a lot of work for us to do especially when we were in school full-time and we had extracirular activities going on.
We just stuck to it and eventually it paid off!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When Brock (the other half of Brock and Boston) left to serve a 2-year mission for the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints. It was all up to me to run all of our social channels we had. I was so worried that I wouldn’t be able to do it and all of our content would just flop.
That so far has not been the case. In fact it’s actually helped our social channels, it’ something so unique that Brock is doing.
He sends me updates weekly and I get to share those with everyone. It’s been fun to show a more up-close view into both our lives.
This whole situation made me realize that sometimes you just have to work with what you have and it can work out!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We started by uploading vlogs to YouTube with no main niche, just uploading to see if people would watch.
Looking back I feel like another way we could’ve built an audience faster was by sharing things about three different niches, whether thats lifestyle, fashion, school etc! Once we started having those main niches in our videos it built some familiarity to our audience.
