Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Boss Shan Boss Shan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Boss Shan, thanks for joining us today. How did you scale up? What were the strategies, tactics, meaningful moments, twists/turns, obstacles, mistakes along the way? The world needs to hear more realistic, actionable stories about this critical part of the business building journey. Tell us your scaling up story – bring us along so we can understand what it was like making the decisions you had, implementing the strategies/tactics etc.
A lot of people see the glitter but don’t see what happens behind the scenes. Scaling up requires more than just spending more money. It wasn’t until I started treated my company like an actual entity and incorporating structure that helped me grow my business from hundreds a month to bringing in six figures a month.
I hired coaches, created systems so I could work smarter not harder, and built a team so I wasn’t doing everything myself.
Often times, entrepreneurs love to wear the “jack of all trades” hat, but fail to realize that they can’t do everything themselves. At some point, you gotta learn to outsource tasks so you can focus on what you’re the best at and what brings in the most money. For example, I love helping people and customer service is my forte, but you won’t see my spending countless hours replying to customers who typed their email wrong or can’t find access details. Instead, I pay someone to do this for me. If I was to spend 20 hours doing a $20 per hour job, I would lose thousands of money as I bring in more money creating content. Therefore, I outsource tasks so I can focus on my craft.
In addition to hiring help to help me preform tasks, I also hired coaches so I could learn from their expertise. I realized that if I want to reach my goals faster, I need to learn from someone who has already done what I want to do (instead of trying to figure out everything on my own). Hiring my first coach, my $997 investment made me $10,000. My second coach was an investment of $1497 which led to making $50,000 per month. And my third coach helped my achieve a $150K launch. No matter what field you’re in, I advise you to get a mentor/coach.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I went to school for Multimedia and website design. After creating graphics and websites for my clients, I realized they all had one problem in common: a lack of marketing skills. My clients had great products and a website, but they didn’t know how to generate traffic to their sites. With my experience selling products online, I would offer my clients free marketing consultations. Eventually the demand for my consultations became so high that I didn’t have enough free time to continue offering 1-1 sessions while also working a full-time job. So in 2015, I launched Boss Divas to help entrepreneurs grow their business by offering eBooks and group classes. This way, I was able to work with more people while conveniently offering instant access to my material.
Two years after launching Boss Divas, I reached a point where I was mentally and physically drained of my 9-5. Initially, I wanted to have at least six months of savings prior to quitting, but I was at the point where enough was enough. After quitting my 9-5 I worked for myself full-time and it’s been the best thing that ever happened to me. Since I was relying on my business efforts to eat and pay bills, I had no choice but to put my all in my business. This forced me to take my business seriously which led me to making my first six figures with Boss Divas.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by catering to my audience’s needs. I provide educational content mixed with entertainment. Too many people treat social media as a sales vehicle while forgetting the social aspect of it. Social media is meant for us to be social. I was able to grow my audience to over 150,000 followers because I interact with my audience while providing valuable content.
My advice to someone wanting to build up their social media account is to figure out who their target audience is, get clear on who they want to be known for online (have a strong story) and build a community online (everyone wants to be a part of some type of community or group – this is what sets you a part from other people in your industry).
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
My most effective strategy for growing my clientele is serving my audience. I create free content and deliver it to my audience through my email list and Instagram account. I connect with my audience at least once a week via email and daily on Instagram to serve my audience. The key to serving an audience is figuring out their number one problem, providing a solution, and delivering it in a form that is easily digestible. Providing free content to my audience gives them the opportunity to get to know and trust me which then makes them comfortable enough to spend their money with my business.
