Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Boris Bianchi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Boris, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear your thoughts about family businesses.
Family businesses are essential in my industry. Tattooing has grown substantially in the last couple decades and had become more acceptable but it’s still somewhat niche. Your name carries alot of weight in the industry so making it a family business and continuing your legacy within your family is very important. I believe allowing my children to be themselves is important but also allowing them to see the possibilities and opportunities that will come with this industry ,working at my shop, Peony Tattoos and cafe, will show them that. My daughter helps alot in the front of the house as a barista. Having one of the first speakeasy tattoo shops/ cafe ,and her being involved, is extremely important for my family business.
Boris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well being one of the only multi International award winning tattooers in miami, my pedigree in tattooing goes far back. Having the opportunity to learn from one if the pioneers in south florida tattooing, it was a great springboard into the industry. Tattooing has allowed me to tattoo and travel all over the world. from Asia to Europe, from Australia to iceland and all over the US, it has broadened my scope on tattooing and being exposed to different styles from all over the world and create friendships that allowed me to hone in my style and make it recognized around the world. Now with peony tattoos and cafe, i want to show what my travels and adventures have taught me and make a truly unique experience with a speakeasy tattoo studio in miami within my cafe. hosting guest artists from around the world, unique art and showcasing my best friend and business partners incredibly unique car collection.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I started my tattoo journey at 19 on miami Beach. I was a bit of a misfit hanging around tattoo shops till I finally got my apprenticeship. I started tattooing to support my lifestyle. Alot of partying and late nights. Then I had my daughter and realized I needed to tattoo for her. I grew up in that moment knowing now I needed provide for someone. Now I’ve opened Peony tattoo and cafe and I owe it to her. She’s motivated me more than I could’ve ever imagined.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Working in tattoo shops you’ll come to see some regulars. Not getting tattooed per se but mostly just hanging around and creating friendships in the shop. That’s how I met my business partner. He was a regular at the shop I worked at on the beach and from there spawned an over 2 decade friendship. Here we are now co-owning peony tattoo and cafe where we get to showcase his extensive car collection.
