We were lucky to catch up with Bonnie Laiderman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Bonnie , thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
We’re a leading national home care company but we do something different from others in our industry. Like others, we help disabled adults get help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry and more. Yet, this type of long-term care isn’t covered by Medicare, so cost is often a concern. We help families address the cost of home care.
With our flagship VetAssist Program, we help qualifying wartime veterans or their surviving spouses get in-home care with no out-of-pocket costs. We help them access a little-known VA benefit that covers the cost of their care.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I founded this business in 2003, just after my mother passed away. While she was terminally ill, I was both her caregiver and a working mom at the same time. I learned too late that there’s a benefit from the Veterans Benefits Administration called Aid and Attendance that could have paid a caregiver to help my mother.
Instead, my mother fell through the cracks and didn’t get the VA benefit that my stepfather earned through his military service. That inspired me to start a business to fill this need.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Our reputation was built with satisfied clients and their families. When it comes to copywriting, we can’t say it better than our verified reviews and testimonials.
I was blown away when I found out about VetAssist. What an amazing program. I do not know how we would have made it taking care of mom who had dementia, without Vet Assist. This program is a Godsend and I would recommend it to anyone. — From Peggy O.’s Better Business Bureau’s 5-star review .
VetAssist has been a great asset to my 90 year old mother-in-law. Her husband was a veteran and passed away. We didn’t know for years about VetAssist, until someone referred them to us. My mother-in-law still lives on her own and needs some help with some everyday chores and VetAssist has stepped up and helped. I would highly recommend getting in contact with VetAssist Program. They can help in so many ways. — From Sally H. ‘s 5 star Google review
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
We have never cold-called older adults or their families.
In the beginning, our best source of clients was from our network of contracted home care providers. We work with national home care agencies as well as mom and pops. They refer their clients to us. If they are a qualifying veteran or surviving spouse of a veteran, we helpt them gain VA funding. Then the hands-on care is provided by the home care agency who referred the client to us. It’s really a win-win for everyone.
Today, we have a strong website and a lively social media presence so we’re getting many clients who find us online. Geriatric social workers, hospital and rehab discharge planners and case managers also refer their patients to us. We even get referral from faith based organizations.
To reach these audiences we rely on Google, FaceBook and LInkedIn.
