We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bone One a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Bone One, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.

Without risks, you will never know how far you can go, who you can become and what you can achieve. Sometimes the risk looks scary and in that moment, it means you gotta jump and go for it. You can’t be afraid to fail. It might just work out better than you imagined.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Eye fell in love with art through world of graffiti, illegal graffiti. The culture that was always around but nobody really cared for besides us writers. Eye only knew names or “tags” but no faces to them. Just seeing it over and over again.. it was so mysterious and rebellious. I chose to start my own journey, my own name, “BONE ONE”. The bone lasts forever. After life, after death, we leave it behind. The structural frame and foundation of the body. Everything else builds around it. Eye manifested those four letters into a life of Art and creativity.

Getting arrested for graffiti isn’t the coolest thing, especially at a young age. Eye put my parents through a lot. Through that process, eye discovered that eye was truly an artist. “Eye can create anything”.
Even though eye was young I knew I was good. My niche in life was found early. It has been my gift to the world.
Turning Art into a business isn’t easy and there are many obstacles and failures to go through. You have to fail to elevate. That’s something eye do not fear. It’s part of the game.
Eye treat everyone the same, with respect until they give me a reason not to. People are awesome and can do amazing things but sometimes we let our status or materialistic lives treat people a certain way. For me, life is about living and sharing. In business we share our experiences and we share our individual journeys with others that understand the grind, the hustle, the dedication, the failure.
My business provides custom painting & design for those who need a professional paintjob/logo/mural for their business space(s). Eye change environments and all handpainted. My style is always changing, evolving, learning as eye go. Eye like lettering and imagery from the old days, simple and clean. Spraypaint gives you such an advantage with that, the colors, the caps, you can do so much with it and that’s where artists flourish.

As far as my “fans/followers” go, just know that eye am one of you! I wake up eat, sleep and breathe just like you! Eye make mistakes, eye struggle here an there. No matter what, life is beautiful, eye am so grateful for this gift and for my Familia.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Man!!! Yeeee! I’ve been through the mud, got out and back in over and over again lol. So many times I’ve messed up, so many times I’ve felt like crap. We are not perfect. Accept it! I’ve been homeless in artschool, something I still think about that at night, every night. It sticks with you. Hungry and laying flat on the concrete wondering how you ended up in that situation just following your dream. Just for trying. Really just trying to make it. Now eye eat as much as eye can!! Haha when eye wake up from my sleep, I’m so grateful! I’ve been a drunk, lost friendships, girlfriends, jobs, etc. My thing is, and eye know this now, eye love so hard. Eye hurt hard as well It’s just my heart, my energy is full of passion!! Eye want to squeeze every ounce of this life. Eye want nothing left in the tank when it’s my turn go. Eye started running marathons 3 years ago. I’m on my 3rd one this December. BMW Dallas. Eye do crossfit during the week while training for the race as well. You CAN do anything!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

Just having the ability and the joy to see the world through a different lense. Going against the grain, being a rebel. Asking WHY??? letting go of things sometimes. Overall just being a creator and knowing that we all are. We create our reality.
