We recently connected with Bog Dillingham and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Bog, thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I would rather be known for encouraging others and not compromising my vision than any material achievement. To hear have another artist, whether my age or younger tell me I inspired them. That is something that is more valuable to my concept of legacy than any dollar amount. Being known for staying true to my own values, style and work ethic runs a close second.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I would like to consider myself an artist and nothing more. Since the age of six it has been my primary focus. Every other career path I expressed interest in were just red herrings to silence the droning commentary from people wondering how I was going to feed myself as an artist. I did not care then and I do not care now. I paint to paint first and foremost.
I paint both two dimensional and sculpted three dimensional artwork created with plaster, hot glue and acrylic paint. My subject matter is influenced by different cultures and mythologies, as well as history and humanities capacity for darkness and light. I like to use artwork as a way to proactively express my thoughts and feelings whether they are gloomy or bright.
I am detail oriented while also being loose and chaotic.
To me it seems that art has always been a part of my life. Dependable, loyal and accepting.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I like that I can take something that is just a thought and manifest it into reality. I think that artists of every medium are the true magicians and wizards. Being able to express yourself, to vent and have the results be something other people find beauty in? That is the best reward.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I do not think most people really get it. This is not a hobby and the only thing more important in my life is my kids. There were uncountable hours of practice and failures to get to today. There will uncountable more to come. I get better and I will still never be good enough to stop learning.
