We recently connected with Boe Washington and have shared our conversation below.
Boe, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Often the greatest growth and the biggest wins come right after a defeat. Other times the failure serves as a lesson that’s helpful later in your journey. We’d appreciate if you could open up about a time you’ve failed
Failure is only failure if you have not learned from the situation or experience. In 2021, I took a leap of faith and opened my own Sports Performance Training Facility. Athlete Depot, the brick and mortar, was the hottest training facility until March of 2022. I closed the doors at the peak of my endeavor.
I failed to master the balance of family and business. Athlete Depot took me away from my family. The time and effort that it took to run and operate a 6000 square foot facility was not worth losing the very reason I sacrificed. So, after my two best months I closed the doors to focus on family.
I learned to make sure I have systems in place, great people to partner and employ and how to say no. I have faith that God will open more doors and Athlete Depot, the brick and mortar, will rise again. But this time a better leader and owner, in myself, will be in place… with family and work balance

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
We all were born to be great and with purpose. I thank God that I was blessed to mentor and educate our youth. I’ve been involved in sports my entire life and it is the bait and driving force of what I do. I’ve been working with youth since being a member of the Hampton University Pirates Football team. I graduated with my degree in Chemical Engineering, moved to Houston, Texas and began a career in education. After a successful five years, I (along with my wife) founded Uncle C.H.U.C. (Committed To Helping Underprivileged Children). Through Uncle C.H.U.C., I was able to impact Houston and surrounding area youth through mentorship, character develop, and 7on7 Football.
Uncle C.H.U.C. also birthed A1 Performance Training Sports Academy, later operated under Athlete Depot. Every aspect of Uncle C.H.U.C. and A1 Performance Training Sports Academy is in operation and thriving… except Athlete Depot, brick and mortar.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What help build my reputation within my market was innovation and consistency. Making sure I maintained and built upon my foundation but incorporated new technology. Being available on a consistent basis helped family, friends and participants plan accordingly

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
After shutting down the facility, I had to regroup, prioritize and continue to fulfill my calling. I went back to the basics that allowed me to open the facility. I continued to use what worked and maintained my consistency to service my clients. I’m finally seeing group after 6 months.
